I saw this band last night supporting Shonen Knife. The contrast could not've been more complete. Perfectly formed grunge-pop from the super clean Japanese trio vs emotive dirt noise from the Brum-based Johnny Foreigner. Howling, feedback-driven opuses sprawling through ten minutes plus and angst ridden screams from frontman Alexei complemented by bassist Kelly's sultry tones made for a full sound indeed. Think early Smashing Pumpkins. The disc itself is somewhat more restrained than their live performance, which is probably a good thing. I don't think my CD player could take it. This is definitely a band to see live, hence the missing star for the studio version. Don't let that put you off though. It's a cracking album. Buy it!
