About johnnie Walker

Established in 1820, Johnnie Walker is the world's leading Scotch Whisky brand and the most valuable premium spirit brand, a hallmark of quality, flavour and craft. Today, nearly 200 years after origination, Johnnie Walker can be found in almost 200 countries, and six bottles of Johnnie Walker Blended Scotch Whisky are sold every second.

With an impressive host of industry awards, Johnnie Walker Black Label is an acclaimed masterpiece of blending craftsmanship, undeniably rich and smooth. With the largest collection of whiskies in the world, the Johnnie Walker Master Blenders are able to push the boundaries of their craft with every new creation. Johnnie Walker Black Label isn’t a gift you give just anyone. But for the ones who matter, it’s always the right choice and perfect for sharing on any occasion. With every bottle, you can be sure of a beautifully balanced and unique blend with a smooth, deep and complex character – the obvious choice for any whisky enthusiast.

Black Label retains the authenticity of its creator and currently outsells every other deluxe blended Scotch whisky around the globe. That it's stood the test of time is a testament to the pioneering spirit and the skills of the House of Walker.

The Whisky Industry in a Glass

With its origins in the 1870’s Old Special Whisky, Johnnie Walker Black Label became simply ‘Black Label’ in 1909. It is regarded by experts as the ultimate Scotch deluxe whisky, the benchmark by which all others are measured.

Each bottle of Black Label will have been two decades in the planning and draws whisky from the finest distilleries across Scotland aged in the finest whisky casks. Each whisky is matured in a slightly different way, due to the intricacies of wood, climate and location. The Master Blenders' skill is in blending these whiskies together to create a whisky with an extraordinary range of flavour.

Beautifully Balanced

Johnnie Walker has the luxury of having exclusive access to Scotland’s very best whiskies, ranging from the powerful west coast malts all the way to the more subtle east coast flavours. Black Label draws upon all these aromas to create a unique blend with a smooth, deep and complex character.

It can be enjoyed on its own, with a dash of still or sparkling water, or with soda or ginger ale as a long drink.

Global Reach

The origins of Johnnie Walker Black Label go back to when John Walker’s son Alexander took over in 1857. Realising the genius and untapped potential of his father’s blends, Alexander focused on expanding the whisky side of the business.

He drew inspiration from his father’s signature smoky style. And in 1867 he copyrighted ‘Old Highland Whisky’, which was the precursor of today’s Johnnie Walker Black Label. By 1889, John Walker & Sons had businesses established in London, Sydney and Paris, and distribution agents appointed as widely as South Africa, America and India. At that time, few brands had such breadth of distribution.

By the 1890s Alexander II and George, the grandsons of John Walker, were running the business. Following the innovative spirit of their forebears and the principle of providing high quality whiskies, these men carved out a new vision, identifying ways to drive it to new levels of commercial success.

With marketing insight ahead of their time – the brothers understood the importance of producing an easily recognisable brand. The distinctive slanted black label was the key, and three years later in 1909 the words ‘Black Label’ appeared on the bottle for the very first time.

Product Description

The colour black has always been associated with style and elegance. The little black dress is always a sophisticated choice whereas the traditional tux can transform any man's appearance.

But black is also intriguing. It has a hint of mystery, of something waiting to be revealed. This is Johnnie Walker Black Label - a deep and complex flavour which is also an unquestionable mark of power and refinement. It is a luxury blend and a luxury brand, with a completely individual personality.

As many as 40 whiskies, each aged 12 years or more, make up this satisfyingly complex blend.

Decade after decade, Black Label wins awards and accolades. Experts consistently appreciate its understated, classic qualities.

The Johnnie Walker Brand is the biggest selling blended scotch in the world and it's the Black label that wins it for them. Regardless of where you buy a bottle, whether it be in your local Supermarket, Whisky Specialist, online or indeed abroad as i have done while in Japan, i can confirm that each and every bottle i have bought has been consistent each and every time. I've never been disappointed by the quality and it's the one blended scotch i can rely on regardless of where i am.

Among the many different malt and grain whiskies in this blended scotch the two main ones are Talisker and Caol ila for those that want to know and both are equally impressive on their own but together they create something truly special. This whisky is at 40% alcohol by volume and no whisky in this blend is under 12 years old.

Now nosing and tasting whisky is subjective to each person so keep that in mind when you read my own personal tasting notes below.

Nose Neat: Initially toffee and a persistent sweetness with smoke all the way through

Taste Neat: Very smoky and an alcoholic bite on the tip of the tongue, behind the smoke you get a sweetness coming from toffee and dried fruits such as raisins.

After adding a few drops of water and waiting 10 minutes:

Nose: More rounded and the smoke has settled down with the toffee on the nose really coming through

Taste: Still smoky but not as overpowering so the dried fruits and toffee really come through, almost a creamy-ness to it.

Finish: Drying in the mouth, smoke and toffee lingers for a few minutes.

Other things i noted: Seems to last at the back of the throat longer than many other whiskies, probably down to the peat they have used.

.... is JWBL. I have a double shot, two large ice cubes and a dash of Perrier water. My father called it "flytende honning" which translates into Liquid Honey

Johnnie Walker Black label is an absolute cracker of a whisky. If you haven't tried Johnnie Walker before then I suggest starting with the Black label as personally I think it is Johnnie Walkers best Whisky (Excluding the Blue label as I've not tried it yet).

Forget the Green Label (for it's price you may as well get a single malt) and don't waste your time with the red unless you are mixing your Whisky with coke or lemonade. The black Label I personally believe tastes the best straight no water no mixer.

Pick up a bottle and enjoy!

An excellent blend with a hint of Smokey-ness about it, a bit more than I expected but still enjoyable a must for all Johnnie Walker drinkers

My Grandad is a big whisky fan, so I usually buy him a bottle of Jack Daniels for his birthday. But Amazon had this on their daily deals at a great price, so I had to get it!

The bottle comes in a very nicely designed tin and the bottle does look expensive. There is a hole in the top of the tin where the top of the bottle peeps through with "12 years old" written on it.

The item was packaged great, wrapped very tightly in a supersized bubblewrap. You could have thrown it on the floor and it would have remained unbroken, the packaging was that good (not actually tested this).

I would recommend this as a gift for any whiskey lover, or if you want to spend a bit more, amazon sell some slightly more extravagant Johnny Walker bottles of whiskey.

This is an excellent blended whisky for the price but you should definitely shop around to get a good price on it. This beats some pure malt whiskies, it is that good. It is very acceptable on its own and far better than the Red Label variety of the same brand, which itself, beats most of the competition.
