This is well worth buying by fans of this band because it really highlights the incredible consistency of David Gedge´s prolific songwriting during the mid nineties.
Regular listeniners to John Peel´s show will remember that The Wedding Present were always one of the bands that could be relied upon to record high quality sessions for the show and this collection bears testament to that.
One of the highlights has to be the riff on,"softly, softly," although it isn´t the greatest song lyrically this group always know how to write a catchy hook. One of my favourite Wedding Present tracks, "Spangle," with it´s trademark bare, honest lyrics is absolutely amazing here as is the infectious,"So long,Baby," a festive fifty entry during that particular year.
David Gedge can be portayed as the average guy embittered when he sees girls go for superficial trappings, the final track,"sports car," is a typical example of this.
I love Gedge´s songwriting, you can relate to it so easily. It´s for real people, living everyday situations. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to witness the magic of this band.
