I have found this book highly influential. John shows you all the secrets of how to practice to get to his amazing technique. If you follow his suggestions on practicing you will see progress in no time. To get to his level though may take years ;)
This book has helped me a lot with my alternate picking and legato. Great source for information on how to play electric guitar with modern techniques. It is not for beginners though!
