It's entirely appropriate that the guy who soundtracked the definitive 80s film should have created the definitive 80s rock album. John Parr first came to wider fame with St Elmo's Fire, from the brat pack movie of the same name (the track appeared on this album originally, but has been deleted from the CD version for some reason. Hence the four stars). But I digress. John Parr has a great rock voice and the musicianship and production are first rate. The songs are good too, if not great, relying too much on a soft porn theme for the hits Magical and Naughty Naughty, and a little too much on cliché for tracks like Heartbreaker. Even so, there isn't really a bad track, and songs like Love Grammar and Somebody Stole My Thunder sound as good today as they ever did, despite the odd soooooo-80s production moment. If you like melodic heavy rock, this is worth getting just to crank up in the car for a flying visit back to the 80s.
