Last year, I had a disaster with a hair colour. I am 49, so am obviously going through my mid-life crisis, as I decided that everyone needs to try red hair once in their life! I dyed it with a colour (not John Frieda) that was advertised as a semi-permanent, but it was very definitely permanent on my hair! It never did fade out at all! My hair is pretty slow growing I think, and it was still red (well, a kind of chestnut) almost 1 year later, despite getting it re-coloured at the salon! After about 9 months with this awful colour (i have nothing against red hair...it just really doesn't suit me!), I put some of my own blonde highlights in, which did help break the colour up a bit.

Needless to say, a year on I was very weary of trying another colour however, I did some research, and realised that the John Frieda Precision Foam colours overall have good reviews. So... after phoning their advice line (very helpful: 0800 652 1496), I played it safe and went for this Dark Cool Pearl Blonde. It was easy to use, didn't take too long, and wasn't at all messy.

I had read that these colours generally come out darker than on the packet, and this was a pretty dark blonde to start with. I can say that mine came out pretty similar to the packet colour....not as light as I would have liked, but it was the colour I was expecting, with no nasty suprises! I was suprised that it did actually cover my 2" of very dark blonde natural roots, the horrible chestnutty colour left over from the red, and the blonde highlights I had put in a few months earlier! It evened everything out!

It was a bit dark and monotone, so after about 1 week, i used Neutrogena's cleansing shampoo

I had my hair bleached professionally but when I came out of the salon, I wasn't too happy with my shade of blonde - it was far too white-ish blonde and didn't suit me. So I popped to the shops straight away to try and rectify the situation with a box of colour. I considered all options and settled on this one as it looked nice on the box and seemed to be more the sort of shade I was after. I am naturally quite pale skinned, with medium brown hair and brown eyes, so I wanted something complimentary to this but still lighter than both my natural colour and the previous colour I had been, dyed dark brown.

This colour comes out darker than you may expect given that it is described as a 'blonde' but the colour you end up with is much like the colour on the box. The condition was great and the stuff is easy to use. I am now a few washes later and am very happy with my choice of shade, and I would also happily use the John Frieda foam colours again as they are very user friendly and seem to give good results. May experiment with a different shade in the range next time just for fun! :)

I really enjoy using this hair colour brand. It is easy to use and I think it is fantastic. There are so many colours available particularly through this website that I am spoiled for choice. Just over all a super product.
