Product Description

NTSC Region 0. Running Time one and a half hours. Extensive multi page archive biographical DVD booklet. The only DVD ever totally dedicated to John Cooper Clarke. The missing Hannett and Ryan Carter films of the early days of John Cooper Clarke's career. This is the classic John Cooper Clarke filmed in the dingy punk rock clubs of the late 70s and early 80s. Punk poetry recited at 100 miles an hour. Five dvd chapters of poems and a short chapter of backstage and dressing room footage. Features performances of many many poems including the more notable ones: Beasley St, Chickentown,I Married a Monster From Outer Space, Health Fanatic, The Day My Pad Went Mad.....and loads more. Clarke has opened for such acts as the Sex Pistols, The Fall, Joy Division, Buzzcocks, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Elvis Costello, and New Order (at their May 1984 Music for Miners benefit concert at London's Royal Festival Hall). His set is characterized by lively, rapid-fire renditions of his poems, usually performed a cappella. He opened for Be-Bop Deluxe on their 1977 U.K. tour and later for Rockpile on their 1979 U.S. tour. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Clarke enjoyed some chart success in the UK with the single "Gimmix! Play Loud", and subsequent album Snap, Crackle & Bop. In 1979 he applied to join actors' union Equity, but as there was already a member named John Cooper Clarke, he joined under the name Lenny Siberia.

2.0 out of 5 stars Unauthorised, and low-quality 24 April 2012
With a cover image based on a photo on his website, and low-quality visuals, this is one for collectors only. It's also COMPLETELY unauthorised, and as such has no artist quality control applied whatsoever.

Released, oddly enough, by Chris Hewitt.. the organiser of the Deeply Vale festival. You'd have though he would have at least asked permission.

Terrible really...esp for the asking price as this is basically a bootleg release....and really only for the die hard fanatics out there..otherwise avoid!
you could buy better at a record fair...and ive seen/bought far better bootleg's. 5/10.

3.0 out of 5 stars It does say "rough" on the cover! 5 Nov 2011
I must admit to slight disappointment when I watched the DVD. I expected better video & audio quality as the manufacturer didn't really disclose the lo-fi nature of the product. I have several boots of the esteemed JCC which have superior sight 'n sound. Having said that, it does say "rough" on the cover!
