5.0 out of 5 stars John Carter: Omnibus of Mars. 17 Feb 2012
By Aaron Stack - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
Marvel strikes gold again with this Omnibus! With the John Carter movie on its way few were suprised to see this Omni appear, call it a marketing move or "cashing in" if you will, it doesn't change the fact that now we can have the entire Marvel John Carter stories from the 70's together in one beautiful hard bound edition! I couldn't be happier. I'm a big fan of this type of lavish treatment for almost forgotten gems of Marvels past. It's nice to see it get its due.

These issues take place specifically inbetween paragraphs 3 and 4 of chapter 27 of Burrough's "A Princess Of Mars" according to writer Marv Wolfman. For those that love the original John Carter stories as written by his creator, these stories should fit unobtrusely into the Barsoom chronicles. They are written in the same style of high adventure as Burroughs work and should be enjoyed by any that like that genre of "planetary romance".

The artwork on the book contains stellar work by no less the GIL KANE(!),Carmine Infantino, and Dave Cockrum to name a few. It's simply gorgeous and definately worthy of a second look in this format. Be sure to drool over the Cockrum character designs included in the bonus section! It's also worth mention the outstanding job Alan Davis does on the new cover (it's included inside both versions).

The construction of the book itself is top quality. NO GUTTER Loss and it lays as flat as you would like. The binding appears sewn and looks like it will last as well as you would expect for a book at this price point. Nice job. The book does NOT include all letters pages but that is a minor issue to me.

Once again Marvel has done a quality job on it Omnibus line. It's becoming a habit and a pleasure to give them 5 stars and a recommendation here on Amazon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Carter! 22 Feb 2012
By Mace & Lacey Gannon - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
I still own the original series of this omnibus. If you don't, then do yourself a favor and purchase this fantastic, classic comic-book series. Great writers, great artists, and solid entertainment. If you don't know the John Carter universe, and want to get further stoked for the upcoming movie, then this is a great place to start.

Unless, that is, you just read the Burroughs novels...

5.0 out of 5 stars Marvel Does John Carter 18 Feb 2012
By W. R. Jones - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
I was looking for some interesting stuff related to John Carter (of Mars) with the upcoming movie from Disney looking like a blockbuster when I stumbled on this huge book of Marvel comic reprints based on the great Edgar Rice Burroughs series.

I've read all the original books in this series and always wanted more of this world, the previous movie efforts have been weak at best, so the comics were a blessed relief, yet remained expensive to obtain. Now we get the comics at an affordable price and a movie on the way that looks very promising, it's good to be a John Carter fan right now!

If you're a fan of John Carter you'll want this beautiful book, if you enjoy movie tie-in stuff this book is a great item to stick on the coffee table for friends to browse... or stick one in the closet for a sweet collectible.

It is also worth mentioning that this book was a pre-order sell out on many fan sites at almost a 100 bucks plus shipping.
