About the Author

John Burningham is one of the most prestigious and best-loved illustrators working in the children's book field today. He trained at the Central School of Art and his first picture book, Borka was published in 1963. He has won numerous awards during his distinguished career including the Kate Greenaway Medal (twice) and the Kurt Maschler Award and his books are enjoyed by children all over the world.

this book is a joy it is a wonderful tale written by a modest unassuming man about his life. He explains the influences which made him the artist who has held thousands of children and adults entranced by his stories. It has many beautiful illustrations so accurately reproduced from his story books but it also has early work that was a revelation to me. Throughout my teaching career I have shared his incredible gift of both picture and word with so many children and we have laughed and cried together over them. This book brought all that back too. I have shown it to two grown-ups now who are both determined to ask for it for Christmas! For me it's been worth every penny!!
