Having collected many books on Led Zeppelin, it's great to get a point of view from someone that new 'the man'. John Bonham is rightly considered to be the greatest of rock drummers. For me it was fascinating to read about the man behind the man behind Led Zep. Mick Bonhams sense of humour oozes through each page recounting so much about what made his brother tick. Taken as someone who 'just wanted to share who John Bonham was, in my own word', makes for great reading.
We've all heard the stories about 'the beast', but never so much about the person. His early life, through to his early years in and around the Midlands music scene. All the bands are mentioned in great detail.
I was sad to learn of the death of the author only a few years ago. Mick Bonham took many pictures of John, quite a few which are shared here. It's like having access to some personal photo collection. This book is not only a great tribute to John Bonham but to Mick himself. This might not have as much information as one might like, but I feel lucky to learnt some more about the man. Highly recommended for fans of the late great Bonzo!

Wonderful insight as recanted by his brother Mick. Humerous accounts of episodes ranging from childhood to his tenure with Led Zeppelin. John was a working man with an immense natural talent. His personality and generosity is evidenced from the behind-the-scenes anecdotes that only someone as close as his family would be privy to. John's playing serves as a reference point from which I judge all other rock drummers. John's feel or "Slink" is present right from his early teens. It's his concept of time and his mastery of it that makes his drum tracks so crucial and essential. There's a reason his playing sounds so current and valid today - He knew what, when, and how to play what was needed and with taste, sophistication, and innovation. One can only wonder what new iconic rhythm tracks he would have come up with since his all too early passing.

This book really gives you a feel for the true Bonzo, aside from the craziness of Zep days. I enjoyed the timetable of what he did between tours, etc. And the anecdotes are priceless. Only 4 stars as I wish it would've been longer. Great piece from his daughter at the end about Bonzo meeting Sting (from the Police). Good reading overall. Rest in Peace Michael Bonham, you did your Bro proud indeed!
