5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible book!, 18 Nov 2008
By Ben Hutton (York, UK) - See all my reviews
This must be one of the best books of its kind I have ever read. The detail is incredible, the most minor of record releases is covered and the book is full of intriguing photos and documents, such as the programme from the concert where John Barry worked with Adam Faith for the first time, and the transcript of a famous shampoo advert adorned by his music.

Barry's career is given a thorough working over in chronological order and this makes dipping into the book not only easy but also a pleasure, when the occasion arises. Everything I expected from the book is there but more besides, including Barry's own take on some of the films he's worked on and comments from his collaborators.

Outstanding value and recommended without reservation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Everything you wanted to know about John Barry, 17 Nov 2008
What a fantastic read. I've been a fan of John Barry for many years and have always wanted to find out more about the man who created so much wonderful music. This book answers all my questions and a good many more I'd not even considered! Every moment of his career is covered from 1957 to the present day, and there are photographs and memorabilia to accompany any event - major or minor - during this time.

There is a also an incredibly detailed discography which appears to list everything he has ever done - well, at least I could not spot anything missing. This is a book I shall treasure and I'm sure I will constantly refer back to it. Thoroughly recommended to anybody interested in one of the UK's most famous composers. One question, where is his knighthood?
