1.0 out of 5 stars A thoroughly worthless pusuit, 1 Mar 2006
By A Customer
Durability:3.0 out of 5 stars Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars Educational:1.0 out of 5 stars
Mmmm…. 36 steps including waiting for warm water to melt the chocolate plus 15-20 minutes in the fridge to cool. So far I haven’t managed to get a decent embossing result either, and I’m actually rather capable so heaven help those who aren’t. And when you’ve finished you can “bag ‘em” can you? Righty ho, but you’ll be a long time filling a bag when you have to repeat every stage, including waiting for melting and cooling, two coins at a time. Doesn’t sound like the great idea you thought this “machine” would be, does it? My recommendation is that you buy your children some nice superior, ready made chocolate coins from the shops and invest in a gift that is actually worthwhile. Oh, and you will be making your coins from silver kitchen foil sooner than you think, since the gold stuff supplied is only good for a handful. But it really saved my day to learn I could send off for more. I write facetiously because the marketing description for this "toy" seems to glibly gloss over its labour-intensive fiddliness and I feel people should be warned.

1.0 out of 5 stars Total pants, 27 Dec 2007
Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars
I gave this 5 stars for educational value, on the basis that it teaches children a valuable lesson about advertising, and not expecting things to be what they are described as. I also gave it 5 stars for durability, since I doubt we'll ever use it again so it will still be pristine in 10 years time.

This was the crappest of crap things ever. It takes over a year to make 2 coins (well that's what it felt like) and they are horrible, greasy, cheap-tasting chocolate. The kids lost interest and wandered off eventually, leaving me to sweat and swear over the wretched coins which, no matter how long you leave them in the freezer, melt all over you the INSTANT you take them out.

Do not buy this product unless you don't like your children much.

4.0 out of 5 stars chocolate coin maker, 7 May 2006

Once we realised how to get the temparature right for melting the chocolate, my daughter age 5 could produce quite a production line with little intervention from an adult. Her coins look and taste very good and she seems very happy with the whole kit. I agree that the manufacturers are a bit stingy with the gold foil, we will run out before we get to the end of the chocolate chips they supply.
