Great little Guide 7 Oct 2009
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I used this guide on my recent trip to South Africa and what a great little gem it turned out to be!

Virtually everything that a visitor to a place would want in a guide is here - how to get there, where to stay and eat, what to see, the local history and customs, etc. While most decent travel books have such info anyway, the auther of this book shows her passion and deep knowledge of her subject. Instead of the dry or flowery verbiage that many guides specialise in, this book is full of life! Personal experiences, anecdotes and stories are shared - it feels as if a Very Good Friend is guiding you on your travels.

Some special highlights of this book include: the wonderful descriptions and tips on places around Jo'burg such as the Cradle of Humanking, the Lion Park, Krugersdorp Game Reserve, and Marupeng. Closer to town, the book points the visitor with insightful narrative on Soweto, the MUST SEE Museum of Apartheid and the delectable Fournos Bakery for a mega breakfast, among a score of exciting places.

The handy size together with the nifty maps at the end make this a perfect city guide.

It's the best one I have found yet - I certainly used so much of it!

If you are visiting Jo'burg, GET THIS BOOK!

Excellent Guide 5 May 2010
Format:Paperback
An excellent guide to Johannesburg - a city I now know quite well. I have not found any inaccuracies in this book and it tells the reader exactly where to be careful and what to look for.

It covers just about everything and is an invaluable guide to this vibrant & complex city.
