Another good buy in the Legends of Specialty series. This disc features 25 tracks from Liggins and his various R&B/swing big bands. Most of the tracks are from the 1950-51 period, with a few venturing as late as '54. Included is Liggins' #1 hit "Pink Champagne", as well as other chartmakers such as his cover of Johnnie Lee Wills' "Rag Mop", "Little Joe's Boogie" (which also seems to have a strong element of Western Swing rhythm to it), and "Frankie Lee." Also included is Liggins' signature tune "The Honeydripper."
Fidelity is excellent, and although not all of the tracks are four-stars, there aren't any real clunkers or filler either. The insert booklet features good liner notes from Billy Vera, and the requisite session info.
