Product Description

From the producing team that brought you Deuce Bigalow and Big Daddy. David Spade plays Joe, whose search for his family has him hittin' the road and keepin' it real with every lowlife he meets, including a sweet hottie (Brittany Daniel), a janitor (Christopher Walken), and a psychotic cannibal (Brian Thompson) with whom he has a brief interlude. Through it all, Joe keeps on trucking all the way to L.A., where a shock jock DJ (Dennis Miller) targets Joe as the butt of his show. But Joe's plucky spirit encourages listeners to cheer him on and help him find a better family than the one he thought he wanted. Rock on!

From Amazon.co.uk

The eponymous hero of Joe Dirt is full of "uncomplicated goodness", which is a polite way of saying he's your archetypal dim bulb trailer trash. Sporting a mullet that makes him look like a chipmunk Billy Rae Cyrus, Dirt loves Lynyrd Skynyrd, greaser burgers, Auto Trader magazine and tying fireworks to cows. He is, as LA shock DJ Zander Kelly declares, "an underachievement nexus". Nonetheless, Dirt's quest to find the parents that abandoned him when he was eight years old captures the heart of Kelly's listeners and the hapless Dirt is cheered on as his stumbles from mishap to embarrassment. Cue an endearing but not entirely successful blend of fart gags and feelgood sentimentality. Saturday Night Live comedian David Spade captures the drawling dumbness of Dirt perfectly and Kid Rock puts in a star turn as Dirt's rival for the heart of Brandy (Brittany Daniel), but there's little here that hasn't been seen before. Dirt gets covered in "poop", Dirt is nearly eaten by a crocodile, Dirt becomes an unlikely hero of the people. With a sharper script and a slightly more adventurous bent, this could have been a 21st century Wayne's World. As it is, file under "bad hair, dude".

On the DVD: As well as the usual array of outtakes, bloopers and deleted scenes, there are telling commentaries from both director Dennie Gordon and star David Spade. The latter is particularly revealing as it consists mainly of Spade saying "well, this scene used to be funny, but we had to cut this bit to get the PG-13 rating". A basic filmography for each of the main actors and the theatrical trailer rounds off the package. --Ian Watson

You'll love this film for the soundtrack alone. Plenty of seventies nostalgia and a damn funny script with Spade's excellent turn as the hapless hero make this one to watch. Yes it has all been seen before but Joe Dirt never fails to raise a laugh. The film reminds us all that no matter how bad things seem, you've always got to look on the bright side. As Joe Dirt himself says "Life's a garden. Dig it!!"

This film is one of my all time favourite comedies, it has so many quotable lines and memorable scenes. I have introduced Joe Dirt to loads of buddies and they have all loved it. In fact, honestly I don't know of anyone who has seen it and not liked it. Quality film!

Best scenes:
"I can see down your shirt"
"I'm your sister, I'm your sister"
"Do you see the peanut?"

HA!

From the team responsible for classics comedies such as Happy Gilmore, Deuce Bigalo - Male Gigolo and other classics comes Joe Dirt. It's very much in the same ilk and very funny too.

It's a silly, heart warming story of a mullet-haired man, Joe Dirt, who - even though he was abandoned as a little boy, still always manages to look on the bright side of life and make lemonade when life constantly seems to give him lemons.

There are some great performances from a cast which include, amongst other big names, Christpoher Walken and Kid Rock. It's light hearted fun that will leave you with a smile on your face and a fan of the man with a mullet. Very nearly 5 stars.

Man, I love this film!! On the surface it's another trashy teen comedy, and I suppose below the surface it's another trashy teen comedy, too. It's not ever gonna be an award winner, but it's one of my all-time favourites. It's corny story is so well played that it's hard not to love the characters and end up dreaming of your own 'Silvertown'.... and, um, Brandi. Kid Rock is surprisingly good, and Christopher Walken is hilarious.

And as others have said, it's got a great soundtrack, great quotes ("You like to see homos naked?"), and a happy, sunny feel - none of those dramatic thunderstorms at night.

It's just great.

I managed to catch the tail end of this film on TV whilst in the US.

If you're a fan of Deuce Bigalow, Happy Gilmour etc, this will be right up your street. The film is non-stop funny moments and lines from the outset. Good supporting roles from Kid Rock, Britney Daniel and Christopher Walken.

The film never really made it over in the UK. Most people will draw blank expressions if you ask them if they've seen it. Good film at a good price - introduce it to your friends. Theres so many funny lines you'll be quoting with those 'in the know'

It may well be stupid funny, but I like it. Something quite heartwarming about it, even the random atomic bomb/muck tank moment.

Wierd, stupid, but good.
