5.0 out of 5 stars It's finally here! 28 Sep 2009
Format:DVD
The eagerly awaited Albert Hall dvd arrived 2 days ago and its simply stunning.Having seen the set twice the week before this concert was filmed I had a good idea just how good it was going to be.The guitar work is everything you would expect from slow burning blues to blistering solos, and the band augmented by a brass section and second drummer really rise to the occasion.Great to see 'the biggest Clapton fan ever' and the man himself trading licks on 'Further on up the Road'.JB plays like his life depends on it.Thank goodness the blues is alive and well and in this guys hands can only further the cause. This really is as good as its ever going to get.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent concert 22 Nov 2010
Format:Blu-ray
I had the opportunity of seen Joe Bonamassa a few days later from this fantastic concert in the Royal Albert Hall, but in a small club, The Oasis in Zaragoza, Spain, just a couple of meters from him. It was awesome...... He is the new Eric Clapton-Jimi Hendrix-SRV all together, but at the same time he's got his own personality

I recommend this Blu ray because it shows the power of Joe's music and also because the audio quality is fantastic. I can't say the same of the video quality. It is a little bit better than the DVD (that I also got before the blu ray), but still PQ is not what a blu ray should deserve.

That's why I'm not giving five stars, even if the concert itself is a 5+ star.

A must buy for everybody that likes rock-blues music

5.0 out of 5 stars Bonamassa Reaches New Heights 29 Sep 2009
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
I've been aware of Joe Bonamassa for some time now & it seems each new release surpasses the last both in song writing terms & guitar playing. This double DVD records his show last May at the Royal Albert Hall & features music from his past alongside music from his latest CD "The Ballad Of John Henry". The camera work & editing of the DVD is spot on, plenty of different angles with enough close ups on his fretboard to satisfy the guitar heads without spoiling the overall atmosphere of the concert. The audience is kept nicely low in the mix which is a change for these days. His playing throughout is breathtaking, I can't believe how much he has matured recently. He has left a lot of his old "flash Harry" ways behind & now makes his guitar work serve the song not the other way round. His band, including two drummers really enjoy the occasion as well. At one point the concert in interrupted by a cutaway in which he introduces Clapton. For me this is fine as it is clearly a very important moment for him, some might find it a distraction though. Highlights for me are So Many Roads, Sloe Gin, a monumental version of Mountain Time & the perfect come down last song, the beautiful Asking Around For You.
Is he a brilliant guitarist? Yes. Is this a great DVD? Yes. Am I glad I bought it? You bet!

5.0 out of 5 stars Guitar Heaven 8 Jan 2011
By C. Tait
Format:Blu-ray|Verified Purchase
This is a superb concert. The most surprising thing for me is how humble and softly-spoken Joe is in person...almost like a loveable guitar nerd. Then, when he steps on change, all that changes: Supreme confidence in his abilities, awesome playing, growling ballsy blues vocals and some great guitar showboating.

What a talent this guy is. His stunning rendition of ZZ Top's "Just got paid" is worth the dvd price on its own and one of the most awesome things I've seen in a long time. If you like guitars, get this now!!

4.0 out of 5 stars It's Great...But... 16 Nov 2009
Format:DVD
I can endorse what others have written here - this is a great DVD and if you like Joe's work it is pretty much an essential purchase.

But a couple of annoyances: Firstly - there are two drummers in Joe's band - Anton Fig and Bogie Bowles. But only Anton Fig appears to have been recorded! It's apparent from the very first track, Django, when Bogie Bowles lays into his kit - and nothing comes out! Once you've noticed this, it's apparent through the whole show. The second annoyance is the terrible packaging, with tiny, flimsy, brittle plastic tabs to hold the discs inside the box. One of them has sheared off, and I've only had the DVD for two weeks. I'd have happily paid another couple of quid for a package that included a decent box.

5.0 out of 5 stars Preview only 14 Aug 2009
Format:DVD
I was at this concert and an unashamed fan of this man and his music. He is without doubt, the greatest modern guitar virtuoso, a fact that everyone will come to realise in the very near future. Even Eric Clapton regards him as "amazing". This DVD is sure to capture the emotion of that night, Joe's humility, Eric Clapton sharing the stage with him, later to be joined by Paul Jones from Radio One who joined him on harmonica backed by a solid band. His regular band members Rick Mellick, Bogie Bowles and Carmine Rohas were joined by powerhouse Anton Fig on drums and a horn section. The sound has been mixed by Kevin Shirley so there is no doubt that this will be the DVD of the year for me, and probably you.

5.0 out of 5 stars One for your lifetime 29 Sep 2009
By Bob D
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
I too was lucky to be there for this superb evening and this DVD has brought back the memory of the evening.A superb night with one of the best guitarists around at this time. I must admit that the night itself live was fantastic but I had a poor seat, the DVD filled in all that I felt was missing from the night itself. The DVD will ignite new interest from anyone who loves the guitar and anyone who can play. An unpretentous performer who has talent in abundance and one who I hope goes on to return to the RAH along with the likes of Clapton, Beck and someone I'd love to see play with him, Bill Nelson. Just buy this DVD even if the DVD has an out of sync, but mindblowing version of Woke Up Dreamin. One for your lifetime and one to take to your grave. Sorry but the out of sync WUD spoilt it slightly so I can only give it a 11 out of 10!!!!
