5.0 out of 5 stars At last, a readable, practical, job-hunting book 26 July 2010
By Gerry_c
Format:Paperback
This book is writen in a non-patronising style, giving useful advice and explaining why you are being advised to do particular things. As a result of the explanations the advice is easier to follow, the necessary work is easier to do. The whole book is a good read but the inclusion of bullet point checklists and summaries that are fun, help to make the whole thing memorable.

Most of my own insecurities and worries about the job search were addressed in a way that gave reassurance and confidence "you are OK" is a simple, often repeated, truth. This is not just a book about how to find and apply for jobs (though it does that very well), it helps a great deal with how to deal with the whole process of job hunting, including the emotional effects of that process on you and those around you.

I am finding this book the best aide I have in my current search for new employment.

The contents of Job Hunting 3.0 has significantly changed my understanding and given me a priceless appreciation of the processes and systems required to survive in the world of recruitment today. It will dramatically improve your prospects, increase self-confidence, marketing yourself to future employers and at the same time remove many emotional barriers we job seekers err toward.

The advertising slogan of the 40's; "want to get a head get a hat", should be replaced by, "want to get a job, get Job Hunting 3.0". I highly recommended this book to all, unmistakeable value, especially to those presently struggling to get back into employment. Before you read others, this is the one that should become the cornerstone to which others are then added.

You may not want to buy this book because you;

Haven't heard of author Richard Maun? Me neither, prior to redundancy, but he's engaging, honest & very perceptive.
Hate self-help books? Why let opinion or pride prevent you from gaining an invaluable job market edge.
Believe job hunting hasn't dramatically changed in 50, 25, 5 years? IT ABSOLUTELY HAS!
Think you have a 'safe' job or easy career moves ahead? I and a million others once believed that too.
Continue to blame others &/or economic times for your apparent lack of success securing new opportunities? A healthy dose of sensitively served humble-pie, offers free reality checks with every purchase.

Care about someone you know or love out of work, it's the prefect gift.

5.0 out of 5 stars The English "What colour is your parachute" 23 Dec 2010
Format:Paperback
In a world where we are bombarded with fancy theories and methods to get a new job, it is refreshing to find someone who tells it like it is. This book is a masterclass in common sense, which in the 21st centuary isn't all that common. If you are looking for a one stop guide to getting a new job, from finding a position to securing the salary you want, then look no further.
