Foreword by Sir Jackie Stewart Jo Ramirez is one of the best-liked and most respected Formula 1 personalities of recent years, and is held in high esteem both inside and outside the Grand Prix paddock. Here is his personal account of his life in motor racing, told with humour, warmth and joy, and providing an honest insight into the highs and lows of a career that saw him work with many of the sport's greatest heroes, although he is perhaps best known for his many years as Team Co-ordinator at McLaren, including the legendary Prost/Senna era. 5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book 22 Nov 2007
Format:Hardcover
The author is living proof that there are occasionally decent, honest guys working in F1. Jo Ramirez is a top man and many always knew there was a great book waiting inside him for when he retired, and here it is. It is fascinating to read of all the changes Jo has seen and experienced in Formula One over the decades. From his early days working with the Rodriguez brothers, through his time with Stewart and Cevert at Tyrrell, managing the Fittipaldi's Copersucar team and then onto McLaren for many years, working close up during, for example the Prost/Senna rivalry - and much more. His is a fascinating insiders story, written with humour and sometimes emotion, a must read for all motor sport fans.

This is a great book, well written and informative. So much fact, and a few home truths about some star names in the sport.
One of the sport's few really good guys. Well worth the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ron Dennis was wrong 14 Oct 2011
By SB
Format:Paperback
When Ron Dennis told Jo Ramirez not to write a book he was dead wrong. This book is interesting, spans several decades and jumps straight in to the action.

Jo's story is a fantastic one.. it depicts his rise from the black sheep of the family in Mexico to his 18 years at McLaren and all of the big names along the way.

Highly recommended.

Interesting and amusing insight to what life is like behind the scenes in F1 from the total legend that is Jo Ramirez. The McLaren Man (Although he worked for many teams over the decades from the 1960's, Jo was the heart of the McLaren empire in the 80's/90's and it's now a very different beast without him!) who was the ceaseless diplomat at the heart of the Senna/Prost era gives a wry, funny and honest look at the politics and machinations involved in the workings of F1 from someone at the heart of it all.

A great book by a great man whose presence in the F1 paddock is sorely missed (thought still seen from time to time like the ice-skating panda I hear!). F1 from the 60's to the beginning of the new millenium and the personalities and dramas which have come and gone over the decades. A good read for anyone, not just F1 fans and petrolheads.

5.0 out of 5 stars Book Review 16 April 2011
By Gearsau
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Great book! For once, a motor racing book that is worth reading. Jo Ramirez has a very long history in motor sport, and the story of his career is well detailed.
I had been thinking about purchasing this book for 12 months, and regret not obtaining it earlier.

Highly recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars From another racing man 20 Oct 2005
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
Great guy, great book. It was a priviledge to work with him for 17 of his 18 years at McLaren. To an insider, no surprises, but admiration for Jo having the courage to write the bad as well as the good, in fact the truth. No one is spared. For anyone with an interest in the sport (which it once used to be) Jo's chronicle of some 30 years involvement is a MUST READ.
