Product Description

From Amazon.co.uk

Jo Brand Barely Live is an absolutely straightforward record of a stand-up gig, with no frills at all, which is all you need from a comic such as Jo Brand. Here we get a coherent view of life, vigorously expressed: no wild flights of comic invention, but lots of sardonic bitching about men, feminism, weight problems and an absolute refusal to pretend to be nice or girly or polite.

This London gig includes Brand's views on What Not to Wear, incontinence and improved types of Barbie doll. She talks about having small children and about what to think about when having sex with your husband (among other things, she recommends trying to list the cast of The Magnificent Seven). This is alternative comedy with everything exactly as advertised on the packet--it's also painfully real and funny. --Roz Kaveney

Product Description

Jo Brand, one of Britain's top female comics, filmed at a one-off live show at the Adelphi Theatre, London in September 2003. Jo describes her latest material as being for 'older ladies like myself who are gently easing themselves into HRT'.

Barely Live is one of the few Jo Brand standups available on DVD and it is excellent. She talks of her recent change in terms of becoming a mother (and of her husband) and she truly portrays life in general and men in particular in a less than glowing light. The fact that she has beef with other issues, such as weight, Trinny and Susannah, etc. is an added plus.

She is quite measured in her delivery and not nearly as manic as many other stand up comedians - something providing a welcome change of pace, if you are watching several stand ups in a short period of time.

The one real benefit of the video is that most of the material isn't constantly played in Live at the Apollo or similar reruns on Dave - meaning that much of it may very well be new to the viewer (would be hard to press the topics into QI in a repeated fashion). Given that the show is from 2003 there is surprisingly little in it that one could describe as dated.

Sure, some males may find their egos lightly bruised but overall she is no softer on herself, women or feminsits, so if you take it as intended, it's excellent comedy, well worth getting on a DVD, as you will hardly find it all gathered anywhere else.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious 9 Feb 2010

I thought this show was hilarious and the only problem with it? I wanted more of it! If you like self-irony and loads of it, this is a must. In this show Jo mostly discusses all the joys of becoming a parent so perhaps people with children will find it particularly funny.

1.0 out of 5 stars Ricky Gervais at his worst
I have played a fair amount of boardgames, but cluedo is far the worst. It doesn't seem to make any sense because it came with no instructions. Don't get this.
