It's easy to be over-critical on albums. Yeah, the damn language barrier means I miss out on any lyrical brilliance &, yeah, this isn't varied enough & has a fairly throwaway instrumental track, yet there's something so subtly glorious about hearing João Gilberto every so often (both the person & the album). Just a man, his guitar & the most delicate of percussive backdrops. Sometimes bores me, other times makes me wonder why I bother listening to any other artists; always great background music if nothing else, and I mean that in the most sincere way possible.
As a side note, I've heard many people say that this is the absolute, ultimate, completely flawless classic in bossa nova, so perhaps you should go with them instead. I dunno, I just hope you enjoy the album; I sure did.
