- South Africa has no less than eleven official languages yet across this babel two musical acts have dominated the last five decades of popular SA black music: Mahlathini & The Mahotella Queens and The Soul Brothers.
- The Mahotella Queens are a South African singing group formed in 1964 and are noted for their clear three-part harmonies, Mbaqanga township music and fast-paced mgqashiyo dancing. Mahlathini was the leading South African mbaqanga vocalist who's deep groaning style perfectly complemented the Queens.
- Stalwarts of South Africa's music scene, the Soul Brothers have recorded over 30 albums since their formation in 1974 and the Brothers are the slickest and most successful proponents of the mbaqanga sound which dominated South African urban music for over three decades.
- For the first time Nascente has assembled the very best cuts from the fifty or so albums and countless singles that these musical behemoths have produced over the years including many early gems from the 60s that have only ever appeared before as obscure local 7"s.
