Jimmy Ranin is a close friend and confidant of Micky Gibbons, the most feared and respected football hooligan that Britain, if not the world, has produced. Many times over the years Micky Gibbons has been approached by publishing houses, offering large sums of money for the rights to his life story but Micky has always turned them down as he did not want to glorify his life of violence. When Micky met Jimmy Ranin for the first time in 2006 they struck up an immediate friendship, largely due to their common interest in the life and works of Nicholas Parsons and their love for ice sculpture. Micky decided to confide in Jimmy and began to recount tales of bravery, derring-do and mindless violence. Jimmy was very impressed with what Micky had to say and when he suggested that Micky should write these stories down for posterity, Micky thought about it for a couple of weeks before asking Jimmy what the word "posterity" meant. As soon as Jimmy explained, Micky gave the go-ahead and between them they produced The Original Terrace Legend.
