Reviews

Jon Brewer directs this documentary in which a number of musicians pay tribute to the legendary guitarist Jimi Hendrix. Narrated by ex-Guns 'n' Roses guitarist Slash, the programme includes interviews with Eric Clapton, Mick Taylor, Eric Burdon, Paul Rodgers, Ginger Baker and Stephen Stills, each of whom explains the influence the music of Hendrix has had on their life and on the rock scene in general.

The dvd is great.Only trouble is that there is a problem with Alan Douglas interview on disc 2,as there is no sound on the interview. This is 4th disc I have had with the problem.I asked for replacement, and to be sent pre-paid envelope to return it,but did not recieve one.Other people must have complained about this I would have thought!!

Not as good as the later 'Hear My Train A Comin' ' with far too many talking heads and not enough music

This 2 blu-ray set contains some great documentary performances and special features. The picture quality (considering the age of the source material) is good. Unfortunately, the audio track is a let-down. This is obviously a low-budget affair, but I wish Jon Brewer had invested a little money and added some compression to his soundtrack. As it is, the volume level jumps up and down from interview clip to interview clip and from performance to performance. The ambient background noise also varies greatly on the interviews. Some sound as if the speaker is in the room, others as if they were recorded in an airplane hanger. The listener must constantly adjust the listening levels to follow what is being said. Some subtitles might have been useful as well. The narrator, Slash, often appears out of his depth and is obviously reading from a script. Some of his pronunciations suggest that this is the first time he has heard of some of the musical icons/influences he "praises." Frankly, an artist of Hendrix' caliber and importance deserves better.
