4.0 out of 5 stars Worthy comic version of classic Henson show 15 April 2014
By Rossco
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Numerous takes by comic writers and artists on the beloved Jim Henson show about a weathered, gravelly voiced storyteller and his sarcastic mutt. The standout tale for me is adapted from one of Anthony Minghella's unseen scripts for the series, titled 'The Witch Baby.' Only nine episodes of the John Hurt character were made, making this a wonderful glimpse into what else might have been done with the series.

I was a bit disappointed by this graphic novel. The premise was interesting but it did not really tell complete tales in my opinion.
4.0 out of 5 stars Tales to Tell 10 Jun 2014

Growing up watching The Muppet Show, The Dark Crystal, and Fraggle Rock - it's hard not to be a Jim Henson fan. The characters and stories that came out of the Jim Henson studios were always entertaining. The tales in this volume are also entertaining and often have a moral to them, as many of the greatest tales often do. Presented by a variety of artists and writers, each story has its own style, yet they work well together as a collection. The inspiration for the stories comes from diverse roots such as Japanese and Russian folk tales and French fairy tales. You may recognize many of them as old friends that have donned a new appearance, while others may be completely new to you. Familiarity doesn't matter though, you will enjoy them all. Perfect for readers of all ages and a feast for the eyes as well as the mind.
4.0 out of 5 stars Great if you love fables and fairytales 30 Aug 2013
By W. McCoy - Published on Amazon.com
I've always loved fables and fairytales, and I loved the way the Jim Henson company did them right with The Storyteller series. Now a new graphic novel from the Jim Henson Company and Archaia Entertainment give us 9 new stories to be told at the fire by the storyteller and his dog.

Most of the stories are a few pages long, but the volume concludes with an adaptation of an unproduced Storyteller teleplay written by Anthony Minghella. There are stories from all over the world. Some are familiar, some are less so.

My favorite part about this book is every story is done by a different team of writers and artists and all the art is different. It reminds me of a favorite storybook I had when I was young with different illustrations for each story. Tying it together is some wonderful script/callgraphy writing by Rus Wooton. It's a fun issue, and now I'll have to dig out my dvd of the series and watch them all over again.
