If you are a teacher of older primary school children get this...It is fantastic. We have been using this with year 5 children. The quality and richness of the language is ideal for this age and in class it provides a fantastic model of Oral Story Telling - I have not seen a better example than Michael Gambon in this role. The presentation of the stories is gripping and children soak up so many details. The episode of Theseus and the Minotaur ends with Gambon using the labyrinth as a metaphor for the history of myths and legends. Perfect. Make sure you know your copyrite rights as a teacher (UK Patent office gives good guidance), get a multi-region DVD player and then let your class be thrilled and inspired.

I was about 4 years old when i first watched the Greek myths series, and i cannot believe how good these episodes still are!! Theseus and the minotaur is still incredible, and the scene where Ariadne curses theseus for abandoning her is brilliant - if for no other reason than the language is great! "You Gods who watch all things! Hear my cries! Mark my tears! Let the sky fall on him! The sea swallow him! The earth drown him! He abandoned me!!" - Well they do say that hell hath no fury like a woman scorned! But nonetheless, THE most literate curse youll ever hear.
Now, i was very young when i saw this, but actually it was never an issue coz the language is literate, yet simple enough that children can understand it. They should not be deprived of hearing these stories and watching these episodes. And one previous reviewer had concerns about their child having nightmares; To be honest, the only thing (or character)that scared me when i was little was Medusa in Perseus and the Gorgon, which was really because i already had an enormous fear of snakes. Now, at the age of 20, the episode itself is just as good as the others and the actress who plays Medusa does an exceedingly good job, which is testament to the fact that she still has the ability to freak me out a bit!
It is just a shame that they only ever made the four episodes, but the stories cannot be faulted, nor can the acting, with distinguished performances from Art Malik, Derek jacobi, Michael Gambon as the storyteller, among many, many others making it all the better :)xxxxxx

This is a BRILLIANT little series of dramatisations of some of the most famous Greek myths. Each one lasts 15-20 minutes, crammed with information and superb acting, visually fascinating too. I would say that they are perfect for children from 9/10 to 13/14. Older children will appreciate them on a more sophisticated level. Daedalus and Icarus, Theseus and the Minotaur, Orpheus and Eurydice, Perseus and the Gorgon - these are the four myths on the DVD
