Sexplosive 17 April 2012
By Lazlo - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
This, Jim Goad's fourth book, is a 224 page sexplosion. Marvelously illustrated in full-color throughout the entire book, it is largely modeled after the underground papers/ comix of the 1960s like OZ and RAT crossed with ANSWER ME!-style tabloid journalism in tone, substance and appearance. The technicolor look helps quash some of the harsh bite of some of the more untenable columns. Yet this reader still needed therapy after reading columns such as "Bird Doggin'! The Perils and Pleasures of [having intercourse with] Another Man's Woman". But then again, that's sort of the point. Sex sucks. Sex is great. The little death and all that.

The focus is on tongue-in-cheek, sex negative sex writing. Sex. The essays and rants are divided into four sections (Fake, Real, Personal and Opinion). The satires in the Fake section are side-splitting and a few, such as "New Wave STDs", "The Herbal Date Rape Drug", and "Virgin Mary's Face Appears in Wet Spot" have some of the verisimilitude of actual phenomena.

I haven't read a lot of erotica and this book doesn't fit in one bit with any I have read. Henry Miller and Anais Nin are sort of the closest relations because there is a lot of ugly biology in this tome. More than, say, any "Good Vibrations" book, "Screw the Roses, Send me the Thorns", or even the Annie Sprinkle interviews and videos I've seen. Again, I don't know if these are the greatest comparisons. But Goad is about really real reality so his course in sex covers the consequences of debauchery that to put it broadly and mildly makes America seem uniquely perverted.

"The Gigantic Book of Sex" sometimes makes you want to blush for Goad, as the first person voice is used. With two-four page articles like "In Praise of Mature Women" [which is largely true from my experience], "Losing My Virginity", "I'm Lousy for the First Time", and "Wiener Dog Heartache" [which, alas, is also true from my experience] there is a lot more laughter than arousal to dig through. So if you allow Goad to be your guide, there is an entire frontier of fun, scary, fulfilling and potentially lethal AIDs-era sex to learn about from a seasoned vet.

No b.s., by reading this I realized what a stifling and boring prude I was, and what a sexketeer cowboy God gave me the potential for. Perhaps with a little more egging on--but, then again, I read "Hand Held Shower Nozzles: Demon Enemy of the Patriarchy" and I wonder if any of it is worth it. Goad certainly has challenged his own sexual programming and behavior to the furthest possible reaches, without sacrificing any of his forceful intellect or drive and for that the world is much wiser. And I can't wait to get my hands on some Amish poontang.

Definitely Goad's best since Answer ME! 18 May 2007
By Buddy Pal - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
This excellent compendium de pudenda is a must for anyone with reproductive organs. The Gigantic Book of Sex is more informative and accurate than any sociological text since Eric Hoffer's The True Believer: Thoughts on the Nature of Mass Movements (Perennial Classics)The True Believer, and funnier than just about any 'comedy' book ever written. Goad's style is of course flawless and exact, which we have come to expect. What I did not expect was the gorgeous 'n' glossy format that the text comes in- it is eye-poppingly wonderful. Goad claims to have done all the layout within, and it is a testament to the development of his aesthetic since Answer ME! came out 15 years ago.

Its a Gigantic book, but its not sexy. 21 Jan. 2014
By Brand Muffin - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
I was shopping in a book store, GASP! I usually try to avoid those boring places but this was a Wacky Book store and of all the fun stuff for sale I ended up in the sex sextion. Im always trying to up my game and practice my techniques so I was holding a few fun books and finally picked this one.

Its packed from cover to cover of fake articles, interesting facts, and personal opinions on sex. I mean it would take a long time to actually read the first 10 pages. Its not a book book, its like a collage of stuff thrown on every page. I bought it yesterday, text ed it to my fave sex buddy and had a study session lined up for last night. Having thumbed through the book looking for more interesting content between my house and my FWB house I realized this book isnt going to be any fun for us. I guess its a good book if your alone and bored but trust me there is not a single page that is going to get him hard or her turned on. Its just a fun off the wall book.

What's not to like. 18 Dec. 2013

Goad has a certain way of telling it like it is. This is a funny and interesting book that one will find themselves going back to over time. I bought mine a while back (several years) and I still find myself picking it up and learning something fun.
