3.0 out of 5 stars Dated film but worth a watch, 22 Sep 2004
By A Customer
This film was for the girlies out there really. The story line was a little repeatitive and a little dull in places. The story goes: One aspiring tennis player downed by his father as the black sheep of the family, who is hugely in debt needs to make some money. His friend and flatmate suggests he puts his talents with the women to work to make him some money. A husband and wife are in loveless relationship, husband is having an affair and wife is bought in on this idea by the tennis player and his friend. Whilst the idea works, it isn't a thrilling video to watch. Lovely country scenery, love and romance all play a part of it ... so if you have one evening when you are bored pop this DVD on and waste some time away. Worth a watch once.

2.0 out of 5 stars Poor..., 15 Mar 2005
By H. Lamb "Helen" (England) - See all my reviews

As with the film adaptation of Jilly Cooper's 'Riders', compared to the book this is absolutely atrocious. Characters are flat and poorly acted and the whole thing has a horribly cheap low budget, dated feel to it. However, ignoring the book - which is easy to do because at times it bares very little resemblence to it - its sort of watchable...once and never again.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't blame the book for this ****, 17 Dec 2008
By Ms. Jme Fine - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I am a long time fan of Jilly's and this book in particular. I happily settled down to watch this film. Every wonderful thing about the book is missing.Lysander is slick smooth and average looking as opposed to the beautiful, vulnerable and exciting man/child he is in the books. Kitty,Margiold and Georgie are unrecognizable both in looks and personality. They are like card board cut outs with none of the warmth and kindness that make you empathisze and care about their situation. Where on earth are Rupert and Taggie?
I am astonsihed it is possible to follow the same (ISH) story line as a book and produce such a polemic response in myself. Scenes that had moved me left me bored. I was forced to write the first review I ever have in protest. Do not waste your money on this appauling wooden film- buy the book which is worth every penny.

2.0 out of 5 stars It's ok. I'd give it 2.5 stars.
Having read the book, I was really eager to watch the film, but was very disappointed with it. Huge chunks of the book are missing. Read more
