It is hard to believe that Paisely Park, Prince, whoever or whatever now holds the masters to this absolute genius album have not had the wherewithall to re-issue it.
Jill Jones' debut was released in the same year as Trence Trent D'arby's debut album, and while one (justifiably) recieved a ton of commercial and critical success, the other fell out of sight, becoming one of the 80's greatest miscarriages of justice.
From the amazing and timeless cover art to the exquiste acapella intro (which she perfectly reprises for the albums' close), this is one of those very rare gems, a damn perfect album. Mia-Boca and G-Spot introduce a vocalist unlike any at the time. Her talent is raw singular and unprecedented. It is now 2005 and I have yet to hear an artist even come even close to making this much of an impact vocally. 'Violet-Blue' overnights to a French cafe where she ponders "what's a woman to do?". This tour tour de force segues into a wonderful country piece, 'With You'.
For me (I only have a vinyl copy) this ended side one. The last four tracks bring in the funk that was inevitable, 'All Day All Night' has Jones backed by the Revolution, while on 'For Love' a certain purple genius can be heard. 'My Man' skips along nicely but would sound the most dated now, but it's 'baby your're A trip' that blows this collection out of the water. A genius track from start to mind-blowing finish, please oh please, someone please re-issue this album (or tell me you have an unwanted cop on CD!).

Definitely ! As always arrived on time and very well wrapped.
Ah, J.J. the good all days. She belonged to the Prince label but the music is different from the other artists signed to it. It is difficult to describe.

I first heard this album when it originally came out in 1987 and was absolutely blown away by Jill Jones's voice. It's across between Taylor Dayne and Pink. She was and is truly a talent and co-wrote and co-produced the album. If your able to get a copy of this, I suggest you do, you'll enjoy. It's certainly not appolonia or vanity, she can actually sing.

I had been lookiing for this rare CD for a short time and I was happy to find it available at the price that it was, considering what other people are asking for it. Once I placed the order, I was surprised how fast I recieved it. The Cd was in near mint condition and the sleeve insert had just a little writing on it, but that didn't matter to me. Even though this album, one of Prince's most popular protege from the 80's, can be found on the internet, I wanted to own a copy of the origiinal CD before the availability diminished and the prices went too high. I'm happy with my purchase and you can trust this seller. I'm completely satisfied. Thanks.

Underrated Vocalist From Prince's Paisley Park 10 Mar. 2006
By Seand67 - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
The 'Jill Jones' CD (1987, Paisley Park/WEA) is a SUPER RARE collectable for Prince fans, without a doubt! Back in 1986-1987, Prince was behind so much music, and his work with Jill Jones remains a highlight from that era. Unlike other Prince proteges, you do in fact get decent vocals (a lil Teena Marie here & there!!)on 'Jill Jones'. As for 'Jill Jones', it's 8 tracks don't justify the high cost of the CD ($25.00 and UP!), so I expanded it with 7 RARE bonus tracks! Collectors should try adding the following songs for a better experience:

9. Mia Bocca (Remix)
10. 77 Beeker St. (B-Side)
11. G-Spot (Extended Mix)
12. Baby Cries, Ay Yah! (Extended Non-Album Track)
13. For Love (The 4 Play Mix)
14. The Ground U Walk (Non-Album Track)
15. Boom Boom (Non-Album Track)

If you're gonna pay a ton of money for the 'Jill Jones' CD, you should at least have fun with it! In closing 'Jill Jones' is a great blast from the past glory of Paisley Park! Enjoy!

Mama Mia Jill Jones ! 12 Feb. 2006
By Armando M. Mesa - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Good gosh amighty ! The prices for this 1987 Jill Jones debut are something else out on the internet used cd market...Glad I got my cd and vinyl copy a few years back on eBay !... That said, Jill Jones is often described and hailed as the best soulful female vocalist to come out of the Prince/Paisley Park camp from the 80's. It's true. She began singing at an early age as a background vocalist for white-soul funkster Teena Marie in the early 80's. This 1987 debut at the time was not well promoted and saw very little if no light of day for MTV rotation. It's a great shame because this album is now a highly sought after Prince protogee title for good reasons. She combines elements of pop-funk with some light jazz as found on the track Violet Blue. Even the track G-Spot, by most of today's rap and hip-hop standards, is pretty G rated stuff with regards to the lyrics !The most played song from this album was the sultry and slick dance tune Mia Bocca (Italian for My Lips) on the R&B soul/dance stations in my area back in '87. The best way to describe the sound of this Jill Jones production is a hybrid between Prince's Parade and Sign O' The Times albums; The material was written in that same era and it shows. The production can be minimalist at times but then lushly orchestrated with strings. This is all courtesy of conductor Claire Fischer who also worked on The Family's self-titled debut in 1985 ("Screams of Passion"). Another Prince side project also ahead of it's time and difficult to categorize for most listeners and radio stations(was it jazz?,funk?,pop?,adult contemporary?,all of the above?)... This Jill Jones' project is intermixed with a good dose of up tempo funky vibes as found on the tracks All Day, All Night and For Love. Looking back at Jill Jones, much of the style was a bit ahead of it's time like Prince! For those who thought Jill Jones was only eye candy as seen as the blonde bombshell on Prince's 1999 music video, Purple Rain and Graffitti Bridge films, make no mistake, she's got the vocal prowess and chops to prove otherwise !

Classic Paisley Park Moment 14 Jun. 2005
By IJustDiedAlive - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
This is a must have for anyone who's a fan of the whole 80's Prince era. Well not just the 80's but you get my point. Jill was featured on many Prince projects before she came out with this explosive album. We all know her as the blonde hottie in the music video for the Prince song 1999 and the waitress in Purple Rain who kinda had a crush on Prince. She also sang with Appolonia 6 in the song Ooh SheSHe Wah.....Classic....

When this album came out Jill had the chance to step into the spotlight and show what she does best and that's singing her face off...Each song on this album will blow you away. With Prince's music to back this vocal powerhouse performer the album is truly a classic moment to all of us Prince and Jill Jones fans.

I know this cd is a very rare one so don't give up looking for it because the hunt is worth it.....Also check out her 2001 cd entitled TWO......and the 2004 cd with The Grand Royals entitled WASTED both available on I-Tunes.

Jill Jones.....classic 80s funk & soul 10 May 2010
By John H. - Published on Amazon.com

Found this cd in a discount bin back in the late 80s. Should have snatched up all of them if I knew how coveted this cd would be years later. Being a Prince fan I knew who JJ was (I already had the cassette)and this album was not mainstream so I never get tired of listening to the tunes...get it if u can.....(and "The Dance Electric" by Andre Cymone...his best.)

A Gem 29 Oct. 2012
By "OAH" - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Jill Jones's distinct voice can be heard on Prince songs like "1999", "Lady Cab Driver", "Hello" and "It's Gonna Be A Beautiful Night". Fortunately, her self-titled Paisley Park album is a gem. It's a short album, but every song is great. My favorite is "Violet Blue". Too bad that this album (and other rare Paisley Park gems)isn't more readily available for purchase. Glad I was able to find it.
