Back in the studio with long-time producer/mate Medasyn, Lady Sovereign (AKA 23-year-old Louise Harman) delivers her signature, quirky raps without the angst of yesteryear. Seemingly in a happier place, LS has replaced her previous grime-inspired, darker sound with more uplifting beats.
Opening with slow but sure grower Let's Be Mates, Sovereign goes all Tetris on us with computer game-inspired bleeps and bass. ''I'm weird and you're weird/ Let's be mates'', raps LS before launching in to a crisp delivery of her love of monkeys, boogaloo and side-partings.
Sampling The Cure's 80s masterpiece Close To Me, LS has struck gold with So Human. No doubt, Cure purists will feel insulted and shout ''butcher!'' at the five foot short rapper. Still, no reaction is a bad reaction.
A rare insight in to the softer side of Sovereign comes in the form of album title track Jigsaw. ''My heart is like a jigsaw puzzle/ Pick it up and fix it for me'', opens LS over a slow, orchestrated beat, before waxing lyrical about her destructive ways, ''So I'm smoking like a chim-a-ney/ I feel f*cked up/ Got too much drink in-a-me''.
Exploring hip hop, indie and pop all in one huge and humorous melting pot, Lady Sovereign continues with killer cuts Bang Bang, Pennies and Guitar: all complete with genius hooks. Sadly, Sovereign's final three delve in to filler territory, with Student Union, Food Play and I Got The Goods sounding like unfinished prototypes.
While the weight of this LP's release will fall firmly on her shoulders, LS should be proud of both her new deal (her Midget label will be distributed by major EMI) and sound. Once signed by Jay-Z himself to Def Jam, then consequently dropped, Sovereign can still stand proud as one of Chalk Hill housing estate's best exports. --Elle J Small

Well done Lady Sov for another fine album which made me laugh for all the right reasons :)
Let's be mates is a light-footed song with awesome sounds; if you want to you can even give it a deep meaning.
So Human, The Cure cover and Single material, brilliant! She sings about her feelings before she took her break in 2008 and explains why things came the way they did.
Jigsaw is about "an ex" as she states in her Interviews. More singing, empathy, and helplessness as well as strength.
Bang Bang is pure fun, crank it loud and enjoy!
I Got You Dancing, her early Christmas gift to her fans, very autotuney, sing along choruses, verses like you know them from Public Warning, something new though.
Pennies is one of the sickest tunes on the album. Starting with her chesty voice "Yeah, father muckers, it's Lady Sovereign". No place for misunderstandings. Good song, she's completely in her element.
When I first listened to Guitar, I literally had to laugh out loud. In fact you could interpret it as a sad song as well. She sings about her exhaustion, how times can change. She had difficult times and she just wants to be herself and do what she likes to do, without other people judging or controlling her. Very musical track.
Student Union is the least favorite on the album. She sings about being with friends in a student union bar and not enjoying it. It's not her world.
Food Play is a must have in my opinion. A deep voiced male introducing several foods and devices, commenting in between and having the last word. Chipmunked choruses. Sexy (kind of explicit) verses by Lady Sov. It's very different from everything else. Whets your appetite.
I Got The Goods: Crazy! Sov doing monkey voices. Cheeky. Lady Sovereign, the way we love her!
Jigsaw is very different from her previous work. Sov is open for new stuff and improvement and you should be open as well, it's worth it!
I could listen to this album all day long, non-exaggerated (in the first weeks it was the only music I played on my iPod)!
