3.0 out of 5 stars Not fail safe for young children 20 Nov 2012
By Bezerus Bezby VINE VOICE
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
This is a lovely idea and I was really pleased with this product initially. However, the pieces do tend to fall out when you turn the pages and I managed to lose a few within the first day of having this. The images are lovely and my daughter loved looking at it, but, she is still only a little girl and did tend to put the odd piece in her mouth. I noticed that they were not really strong enough to withstand this and frayed quite quickly. Therefore, overall, an okay product, but not as good as I had hoped.

On the Move is OK for older children who will have a lot of fun putting together these 5 simple, bright transport themed puzzles however; it's not so great for younger children. Try asking a younger child to keep a book flat, sit still and not turn the pages over. Can't be done. As soon as they turn the page the jigsaw pieces fall out. I got fed up with having to pick up the pieces and get them to start the puzzle again...so did they. I also had a problem preventing my granddaughter (she's almost 3) putting the card pieces into her mouth. As soon as the card's wet or damaged the pieces don't fit which renders the whole book redundant. Not the best thought through design though certainly well presented and nicely illustrated.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fun for a while but turns into a muddle 18 Oct 2012
By Mark R. Bannister VINE VOICE
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
My 3-year old son wasn't very good at completing jigsaw puzzles before he got this book, but he really enjoyed doing these puzzles by himself because when you take the puzzle pieces off you can still see the picture behind. It is therefore a great learning tool for a novice jigsaw-puzzler. He got really excited when he started completing the puzzles all by himself. I would say, however, that the rhymes on each page, while nicely written with a good rhythm, were generally ignored as my son scrambles to take out the puzzle pieces. The jigsaw pieces can be quite tight to fit and sometimes he needed help to do that. They can also fall out when you turn the page, and after a while my son had all the pieces muddled up and then started to lose them around the room. It's not like an ordinary jigsaw puzzle where you can store the pieces in a muddle in the box it came in, as this book did not come with a box.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great value first jigsaw 30 Sep 2012
By Steven Brown TOP 500 REVIEWER
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
Am very impressed with the value of this jigsaw book.

Nice, colourful pictures, with lots going on, which is exactly what my son (21 months old) loves in a book, lots of items he can learn the names of. The jigsaw is slightly beyond him at this age, but he likes pulling the pieces out and getting my help putting them back in, so I would imagine over the next few months he'll be more and more able to do it himself.

Have seen another review stating that it's not child proof - seems to be solid enough to me, so guess it's more of an age thing - probably 6 months or so ago, I could see my son chewing/biting/destroying this kind of thing, but I reckon if your child is at least 18 months old, you shouldn't have as much a problem with this kind of behaviour, so could buy this book without worrying about that other review.

It's really good value, 9 nice big jigsaw pieces on each of the 5 pages, each with an interesting scene.

In summary, great value jigsaws, perfect for probably 18 months up.

3.0 out of 5 stars Definitely Not Child Proof 28 Sep 2012
By C. Green TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE VOICE
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
The idea of this book/jigsaw hybrid is a good one; multiple, repeatable puzzles in one single, easy to transport package. The jigsaws themselves are good; colourful, interesting and difficult enough to challenge my two and a half year-old without being utterly impossible.

The only real problem is the book's resilience, and unfortunately its quite a big one. First the materials used to make the jigsaw pieces, card, is not tough enough to withstand the abuse heaped upon them by a small child. A bit of chewing, sucking, throwing and general manhandling and they begin to fall apart. After a little under two weeks of heavy use and several pieces are bent to the point that they no longer fit with surrounding pieces and others have lost part of their pictures.

The second problem is that there is no way to securely affix the pieces into the pages of the book. That means that seconds after little fingers have picked it up pretty much every piece has fallen out, leading rapidly to lost pieces. Only when every puzzle is entirely complete do they just about stay in place as you turn the pages, but if pieces are missing or misshaped they tumble out easily. After a while it becomes somewhat frustrating and also removes one of the book's selling points; ease of transportation. Velcro or magnetic backing would have been so much better.

So a nice idea well presented but not brilliantly executed. Considering the target audience it needs to be far more robust.

4.0 out of 5 stars Absorbing? 25 Nov 2012
By Benjamin TOP 500 REVIEWER
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
The book contains five jigsaw puzzles, each puzzle made up of nine pieces. The pictures are colourful and have plenty going on in them, all based on the theme of transport - providing plenty of opportunity for interacting. Each puzzle fits in a frame on the page, and to make assembling the puzzles a little easier a feint image of the picture is printed within the frame.

This should prove quite absorbing for a young child, even more so when the pieces of the various puzzles become muddled together as they no doubt will - for while the puzzles sit tightly on each page before they are first taken out, once removed they do not fit back so tightly, so can quite easily fall out again, especially when turning the pages.

The book is made of very thick card, and while not too large makes quite a heavy book.
