Jiangan - real book, real results,
By
This review is from: Jiangan - the Chinese Health Wand (Paperback)
I am so pleased to finally see this book in print. I have been a student of Michaels' for several years and have been privileged to be able to follow the progress of this book and benefited from the exercises and forms Michael has outlined in the book.As still a novice I cannot easily comment on the comparisons made with Qigong and other traditional forms of Tai Chi but it was interesting to read more of the background to the Health Wand and to its history. I don't know how much research the first reviewer did but I know that Michael has mentioned Bruce Johnson since he first began working on this book. In fact he began by introducing us to the exercises, i think the thought of a book came later. Any searches I have done show up references to Bruce and his book. On Google and Wikipedia. So unless Michael has perfected time travel too I can assure any readers that he has not 'made it up'. This is a fantastic exercise and a well written and informative book. A fitness and exercise regime that actually works and is as simple and easy to do as it says.

A life-changing book,

This review is from: Jiangan - the Chinese Health Wand (Paperback)
At last, after almost 35 years, another book on this magnificent exercise system (the only other book on the subject being out of print). This is a well-written comprehensive guide written for both beginners and for those experienced in Chinese health arts. It is a simple no-nonsense guide that anyone can follow but the author also shows how the system relates to Chinese internal medicine and more eclectic ideas such as `pyramid energy' and the `Golden Ratio' principle. It achieves a balance between the practical and logical aspects and exploring esoteric concepts. What I like about the book is the `personal empowerment' stance the author takes, treating health and fitness as part of one holistic process rather than how Chinese health arts are generally approached (i.e. `internal cultivation' versus `physical exercise'). With the system being easy to learn the reader is offered the tantalising prospect of being liberated from exercise classes, gym membership and having to rely upon instructors for their health and fitness needs.. I am sure that this book will play its part in gaining many converts to this unique, gentle yet potent art and it is not too sensationalist to say that this could be a life-changing book for many. I suspect that it will open up many avenues of interest and research. The inclusion of a DVD would have been `icing on the cake' but the directions, diagrams and photos are clear and concise allowing anyone to follow. I strongly recommend this book for anyone interested in health, fitness and self-improvement.

Jiangan the chines health wand,

As someone who has done Qigong for many years I was a little sceptical abouth this book but decided to give it a try, I WAS NOT DISAPOINTED it is very well writen and the instructions and photos are first class, if there is any shortfall then I would have liked to see a DVD, however I have found the author doing the routines on YOU TUBE. In my oppinion this is something that could be turned into the next "BIG HEALTH BUSINESS". The other negative comment sadly no one wants to reply to e-mails requesting info on the price of a Gan or how do you become an instructor.
