Product Description

Synopsis

Jewish history in London properly begins with the arrival of a small group of Jews with William the Conqueror. Despite their expulsion in 1290, the influence of Jews on the life of capital has grown, especially after the large-scale immigrations of the 19th and 20th centuries. The Jews have had an extraordinary impact on the life of the city, and this book shows how it happened.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very informative 16 Aug 2007
Format:Paperback
I bought this book in order to gain a more detailed veiw of life as a Jew in London. As someone whose heritage is derived from the Jews in the East End, i considered this an essential read. I was not disappointed with the content of the book! It flows well, and the illustrations bring the history to life.
I was also impressed with Black's style of writing. I didn't feel at all patronised by him as i have with reading some other historic books.

Overall, I would highly recommend this as a read to anyone who has an interest in Jewish history.

I bought this as a present for my 86 year old Jewish mother born in Bow.
She loved it & says she's also learnt alot. She dips in & out of it but says it's one of the best presents she's had.
