In nowadays world of jewelry making most engraving is done by machine driven equipment. This 'how-to' book from Hardy and Bowman is about the old school of hand engraving, predominantly dedicated to engraving script.
The book contains step-by-step tutorials for learning hand engraving of various script types and discusses the basic tools.
Part of the book is dedicated to techniques, e.g. how to:
- harden, temper and sharpen engravers;
- hold an engraver;
- work with workpiece holders;
- create various cut forms and types.
Although somewhat outdated in places, I would recommend this book to anyone keen on learning the basic concepts of hand engraving script and monograms.
