A Masterly Review of Historical Christianity, 27 Dec 2005
This review is from: Jesus Versus Christianity (Paperback)
A very in-depth look at the Jesus of Christianity, comparing and contrasting to the actual Jesus of the Bible. The in-depth scholarly analysis of the Greek, Hebrew and modern English Bible texts provides a deep understanding of the meanings of some otherwise misleading Biblical texts. Occasional comparisons of apocryphal texts and the texts of other religoins sets the scene of what early Christians would have read & known about in the days before a canonized Christian Bible existed.
Thematic chapters on authority, Jews, historicity of Jesus, similar pagan religions that pre-dated some of the stories about Jesus, morals, teachings and all other areas associated with Jesus.
Altogether an excellent and unbiased coverage; a little on the heavy side it should nonetheless be a standard reference book for all those interested in Christianity, its historicity and in New Testament study.
