This review is from: Jesus: The Image of Humanity - Luke's Account (Paperback)
This is an interesting work written in the fashion of the author's other books e.g. 'Images of Jesus', 'Angels of Grace' et al. It is important for the prospective reader or purchaser to understand (and to appreciate) that the book under review, 'Jesus: the Image of Humanity' is in essence a devotional, homiletic and exegetical work in which the author focuses especially on the text of the Gospel of Luke.
The book's author, Anselm Grün is the 'Cellerar' of Münsterschwarzach Abbey, a Benedictine establishment, in Germany. From 1965 to 1971 he was a student of philosophy and theology at Rome. He has written in excess of 200 books.
Christians will find an exegetical treasure herein. Grün flourishes in his exposition of the famous hoard of parables in which Luke's Gospel abounds plentifully. There is little or no space for serious critical matters, but there is a chain of references to the underlying Greek terms and phraseology as the author elucidates the various messages of Jesus.
There can be little doubt that this book should prove to be a highly useful and practical addition to almost any pastor's, priest's or deacon's library; it positively exudes spirituality whilst retaining a largely 'interdenominational' ambiance, if that is an appropriate term.
There is a wealth of comments and insights which are highly employable within an individual's life, or within a Christian fellowship; there are more than a few substantial Bible studies contained within these pages, for example.
Within the constrictions pointed out above, this book can be relied upon as an inspirational exposition of portions of Luke's Gospel.
