Product Description

"I want to connect what concerns people today with what it was about Jesus that fascinated Luke, as a man of his lifetime I want every reader to be guided by Luke to Jesus, to gain new insights into Jesus, and to discover in him the one who gives meaning to our existence, heals our wounds and leads us to true life." -Anslem Grun In Jesus: the Image of Humanity, best selling author Anslem Grun writes an introduction to the Gospel of Luke that will inspire those who find it difficult to encounter the real Jesus in the writings of the New Testament. He shows the Jesus of Luke's Gospel to be the key to a spiritually fruitful life, something many Biblical exegetes fail to do. Grun's concern is to interpret the text in terms of the needs and longings of contemporary Christians. He pierces through alienating and inherited impressions of the text to show that what Luke is giving us is a record of his own experience of Jesus. He sees the Gospel as an expertly composed, entertaining and valuable piece of publicity on behalf of the Jesus movement; and its message is as life changing in the twenty-first century as it was in the first century.>

Comments by Michael Calum Jacques author of '1st Century Radical'. 12 Nov 2008
By Michael Calum Jacques - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This is an interesting work written in the fashion of the author's other books e.g. 'Images of Jesus', 'Angels of Grace' et al. It is important for the prospective reader or purchaser to understand (and to appreciate) that the book under review, 'Jesus: the Image of Humanity' is in essence a devotional, homiletic and exegetical work in which the author focuses especially on the text of the Gospel of Luke.

The book's author, Anselm Grün is the 'Cellerar' of Münsterschwarzach Abbey, a Benedictine establishment, in Germany. From 1965 to 1971 he was a student of philosophy and theology at Rome. He has written in excess of 200 books.

Christians will find an exegetical treasure herein. Grün flourishes in his exposition of the famous hoard of parables in which Luke's Gospel abounds plentifully. There is little or no space for serious critical matters, but there is a chain of references to the underlying Greek terms and phraseology as the author elucidates the various messages of Jesus.

There can be little doubt that this book should prove to be a highly useful and practical addition to almost any pastor's, priest's or deacon's library; it positively exudes spirituality whilst retaining a largely 'interdenominational' ambiance, if that is an appropriate term.
There is a wealth of comments and insights which are highly employable within an individual's life, or within a Christian fellowship; there are more than a few substantial Bible studies contained within these pages, for example.

Within the constrictions pointed out above, this book can be relied upon as an inspirational exposition of portions of Luke's Gospel.
