Synopsis
There are many ways to lead the visitor through the streets and byways of Jerusalem. These two volumes of self-guided tours present the sites of Jerusalem in their historical sequence. This enables the reader to place in time the sites and events encountered. The thirty-six tour routes are organized under nine headings, each dealing with a period in the history of Jerusalem from its beginnings as the capital of King David to that of the modern-day State of Israel. The introduction to each tour focuses on the major sites to be visited and provides a coloured map marking the exact location of all the sites on the route. Information on public transport, parking facilities, and visiting hours at some of the sites are also provided. The many maps, floor plans, drawings and photos, most of which were prepared especially for this guide, complement the text and impart to the reader the unique atmosphere of Jerusalem. Yad Izhak Ben-Zvi is the foremost research and academic institution in the field of Eretz-Israel and Oriental and Sephardic Jewery. It is named after the second President of Israel.
