Book Description

An Island at War

Imagine this: your brother lives a peaceful life on a beautiful island and you phone for a chat and an update. While you are talking he suddenly hangs up. You call a couple of hours later and a policeman answers. He tells you your brother is dead; killed in a tragic accident, but when he describes it, you know your brother could never have died that way.

So what do you do? Accept what the police are telling you and convince yourself you must be wrong? Or do you get on the first plane to the island determined to get to the truth, no matter what the consequences?

Frank Armstrong has no doubt what he has to do: he gets on that plane and before he knows it he has entered a world of political assassinations, corrupt police and shadowy figures where everyone seems to have their own secret agendas... and nobody can be trusted.

The faint-hearted might back off, but there is no way Frank is going to allow whoever murdered his brother to get away with it.

What follows is an action-packed thriller that takes you from the channel island of Jersey, off the coast of France, to Cyprus in the Mediterranean, the gateway to the Middle East, where there exists a maelstrom of hate, fear and extremism that could be ignited into the most violent of confrontations. All that is needed is for someone to light the blue touch-paper...which is precisely what is being planned.

A great book for lovers of action-suspense thrillers.

More About the Author

Eddie Kirkup was in military service over a period of 25 years, finally leaving in 1986 for a new life as a civilian. During his time in the military he saw action around the world in locations as far flung as Yemen, Canada and Europe. He has been, at one time or another, involved in various military engagements and the odd gun battle, receiving several commendations plus a few medals in the process.

Since leaving the military he has spent some time living in Norway, lived the life of an Islander in both Jersey and Cyprus, and developed a taste for travelling and living in the Far East. He didn't leave all the action behind him and once took on a burglar in a Norwegian post office that served as a local bank, this resulted in a little bit of infamy through the local papers.

Also interested in boxing, he has been involved with the Jersey Leonis Boxing Club and has rubbed shoulders with the likes of Frank Bruno, Sugar Ray Leonard and John Conteh.

Hardly surprising then that his debut novel is one from the action-adventure and suspense thriller genres, drawing on his life's experiences both during and after his military service. Jersey's Secret Assassin is a fast moving and credible suspense thriller which Eddie really hopes you will thoroughly enjoy.

Just finished a review copy of Eddie Kirkup's new thriller. Great read and plenty of suspense and action. Romance, death, snipers at large, and then a chase to the Med - what more escapism could I want?
This writer clearly knows more about such matters than meets the eye. An author to be watched carefully, and enjoyed.

If you like murder, mysteries and international plots 'Jersey's Secret Assassin'is a story that will take care of that wet afternoon with consummate ease. Our author has spun a tale that made the book hard to put down and I found I had to pace myself to get full enjoyment from it. Written with obvious knowledge of locations that have an interesting history but relatively few people would ever visit, lent an interesting background to this fast paced novel of hidden plots and murder. The story flowed well but at some stages where the action was fast it seemed a little short on detail and left me hanging for information. Otherwise a great story and there is obviously a sequel in the offing that I shall be keeping an eye out for.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Fast Paced Page Turner 22 Mar. 2014

Jersey’s Secret Assassin is the first book I’ve read by this author and Eddie Kirkup set the hook from the first page. His fast paced style had me turning pages late into the evening. He paints a colourful and graphic picture and I found myself so involved in his exotic locales that I wished I could see them in the flesh. The plot and characterization are tight with no disappointing holes to ruin that so important suspension of disbelief that leaves you living with the characters. A great read. I can’t wait for the sequel.
