2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, 22 Mar 2004
By A. Key "angry-nun" (Hampshire, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Dull, dull, dull. Short on practical information, short on useful addresses, and despite the claim in the blurb that the author is a keen walker, almost nothing about good walks or cycle rides. At times it reads as if the author simply couldn't be bothered to do any research that involved leaving the house or picking up the phone. It's full of unhelpful generalisations about how there are reaturants for every taste, or that St Helier has night clubs suitable for young and old. Which ones? Where? Jersey's prominent network of "Green Lanes" go unmentioned, and there's nothing about the arcane parking permit system which any motorised visitor has to get to grips with. It's long on local history, which is something, I guess.

We got more of use from the ten-years-out-of-date OS guide I borrowed from the library. If you're used to the quality and thorough research of Lonely Planet or Rough Guide, this book is going to be something of a shock for you. I'd recommend you buy a different guide, except that there isn't really an alternative. Don't let it put you off going to Jersey.
