This show was aired for one 'season' on CBS, across the pond. However, CBS pulled it, citing poor ratings.

The fans stepped-in, creating a media storm. An online petition gathered over 107,000 signatures, newspapers featured articles and 20 tons, yes tons of peanuts were sent to CBS' offices.

Within a few weeks this show was un-cancelled, something incredibly-rare in America.

As of now, CBS has purchased 7 episodes, to be broadcast sometime next year. More are promised if ratings improve. You bet your a** they will, CBS.

Now, to the plot. Jericho is a small rural Kansas town. Jerico is left paralysed after a series of nuclear attacks on the main US cities. Soon after an EMP attack knocks-out communications.

This might not sound like much of a basis for a show, but it works. It grips you right from episode 1 and doesn't let up.

I've already pre-ordered this. I urge you all to do the same.

This show has, for me, the feel of a made-for-tv movie. Obviously, the show was made for tv, but unlike other shows such as Breaking Bad and Six Feet Under, this has an air of cheapness and one-dimensionality that I just couldn't get past. Let me put it this way...I've almost come to the end of the second disc, and I don't know any of the characters' names...THAT'S how unengaging they are. I was expecting at least some excitement. For example, when I had watched the first five minutes of the first episode of Breaking Bad, I KNEW it was going to be an amazing show. This? I wouldn't bother. Won't be wasting my time and energy watching another minute.

This is a series which just grows on you, once you start watching the DVD's you just want to carry on until the end.

Set in the USA if focuses on the lives of people in a small Kansas town called Jericho after a nuclear strike. The series grips you because it deals with the people issues of nuclear war - how it changes normal lives and how the new uncertain future means all the rules have changes. I like the fact that although it deals with the terrible effects of a nuclear strike, it is not all blood, guts and radiation sickness. It has something for everyone, tense nail biting scenes, humour, emotion.

I for one am thrilled the fans won and a second series is on the way.....there had better be a third too!

This production was made with a particular audience in mind I suggest and it isn't for the fans of series such as Banshee - HBO Season 1 [DVD] [2013] or The Spartacus Collection (Gods of the Arena, Blood and Sand, Vengeance) [DVD] in my view.

Jericho is very sanitised, with most of the violence that takes place happening off camera---this is not late night viewing but prime-time,family drama of a harrowing event that in the hands of a different director(like Danny Boyle for example)and in an alternative TV slot would be portrayed much more realistically.

But,hey,I'm not reviewing the terribly nihilisticThe Road [DVD] or the Mad Max series of films; this is neatly produced, the actors are mainly pretty and clean and have several romances playing throughout, and the bad guys are not disgustingly bad.

I can see why this 1st season generated so much interest that the fans campaigned for a 2nd season and some kind of resolution to the story.

I did buy the short season 2 to see how things panned out---it interested me enough to do so.

It's an interesting show, although poorly executed in many ways. Some people may compare it to Lost, but apart from one key character, there's not a lot of mystery beyond the normal sort of stuff you would get in small towns: affairs, a son going off the rails, blah blah.

The writers, I suspect, also are probably townies and don't really understand small town life. There's a point where the town has to send 10 people off to the next town - so who do they send? the farmer who runs their biggest farm. Er...! And there are also stupid points too. Like rationing when winter has arrived, not months before, when the disaster struck. Or installing wind turbines only when the generator's about to use its fuel up. In...oh yeah...winter. It's all nonsense really.

That said, it was harmless enough fun. Just don't expect anything mind-blowing!

This is a fantastic piece of television and looks with real honesty at what would happen to a western country if it were subject to a sweeping nuclear attack. That is to say, there would be barely contained chaos held in check by the efforts of good people, which is exactly what Jericho is about.

The story is well written with characters that you really come to care about. That the producers decided to cancel it after only one season is a clear demonstration that television producers now are only interested in maintaining established (and stagnant) shows rather than investing in new material.

This is a soap...!
I loved Prison break, 24, Heroes, Spooks, Life on mars... But Jericho has nothing in common with those great TV shows. The nuclear bomb explodes in episode 1, and then almost nothing else happens ! We see a few people in the city of Jericho trying to survive in their small town, fighting some bad people who want to kill them. The bad against the good, some romance... Always the same thing. Could you imagine the life in a small city in the middle of nowhere in the US ? This is Jericho. It is sooo boring when you come to episode 8 or 10...
