Michael Mann needs no introductions here in 2008 as he is currently the greatest living Director. Yes, i am correct. Just think about it- Heat, Last of the Mohicans, thief, Ali, Manhunter, Collateral, Miami Vice and the masterpiece The Insider.....do i really need to continue?
In 1979, Mann was an unknown entity in cinema. He cut his teeth on American TV until he directed this little gem - The Jericho Mile. Made for TV, this is part gritty prison movie, part equally gritty fairytale (sympathetic killer obsessively runs to Olympic standard and why not?). It's generally upbeat without being excessively naive: the walls don't simply fall, and the optimism has to seep through a quasi-documentary context of racism and violence. It's really well acted by pros and inmates, crafted to manipulative perfection; and it beats Rocky every which way. See it and be entertained by the master film maker Mann.

Good movie. It wasn't the best picture quality out there, but it's pretty much the only choice we have! HA, we can't even buy this in US. It's one of my favourite Micheal Mann movies, it has his traits written all over it. Very happy for sure :-)

Good quality vid for VHS. No picture problems. Great to see a film I last watched 30 years ago, and I enjoyed it almost as much as the first time.
