Jennifer Walker has spent the past seven years researching and writing her biography of the writer known as Elizabeth von Arnim. Jennifer was inspired to disentangle the mystery of the identity of the best-selling author of Elizabeth and her German Garden (and over twenty further novels) when she discovered the site and remains of Elizabeth’s Chalet Soleil near Crans Montana, Switzerland. Jennifer lived for many years near Geneva in Switzerland, and has an academic background in music and literature, with a special interest in works of the early twentieth century. She has published papers on the site of the ‘German Garden’ at Nassenheide in Prussia, and on Elizabeth’s relationship with H G Wells. She has also given papers at conferences organised by the Katherine Mansfield Society, on the relationship in life and work between Elizabeth and her cousin, Katherine Mansfield. Jennifer hopes this new biography will stimulate renewed interest in this writer, whose life story is as fascinating as her work.
