Product Description

From BBC Radio 4's The Archers, Jennifer Aldridges Archers' Cookbook features over 150 recipes from dinner party dishes to farmhouse cakes, brought together to a season-by-season tour of the kitchens of Ambridge.

Every recipe is given a setting within the wonderful world of The Archers, whether it's Lilian's rich tiramisu or creamy piquant chicken, made with Helen's Borsetshire Blue cheese.

Jennifer's Jottings and Misty Memories intersperse the recipes, providing country kitchen wisdom and glimpses of the Ambridge of Jennifer's youth.

Meticulously accurate and affectionately written, this is the perfect gift for Archers' fans everywhere.

Lilian's Rich Tiramisu Serves 8

Still popular with coffee addicts, although lilian's always rather too generous with the brandy.

- 10fl oz (1/2pt/300ml) strong black coffee
- 2tbsp coffee liquer or brandy
- 24 boudoir sponge finger biscuits
- 3 medium sized eggs, seperated
- 3tbsp caster sugar
- 2 x 9oz (250g) cartons mascarpone cheese
- a little cocoa powder

Mix the coffee and liquer together. immerse the sponge fingers in the mixture one at a time, then line the bottom of the glass trifle bowl with half of them.

whisk or beat the egg yolks with the sugar until pale and thick. Add the mascarpone gradually until the mixture is evenly blended.

Whisk the egg whites until they stand in stiff peaks then fold into the mascarpone mixture.

Spread half the mixture over the sponge fingers in the trifle bowl, then add another layer of coffee soaked sponge fingers and spread the remaining mascarpone on top.

Decorate liberally with sifted cocoa powder and chill overnight, or for at least 6 hours. Serve chilled.

From the Introduction ...I would like you to picture the seasons in ambridge with these recipes and capture the feel of the village through its enticing aromas and tempting treats. Be prepared to pick your way over the yard at Home Farm for some of Tony's muddy, crunchy, organic vegetables. Borrow a bicycle and Lynda will lead you to discover the tenderest green shoots for a springtime salad. Or just pack up a picnic and laze under the willows on the banks of the gently flowing Am...

This book is a kind of journal written by Angela Piper, who plays Jennifer Aldridge (nee Archer) that follows the seasons and the months in Ambridge, combined with contributed recipes from other characters in the Archers. Designed to look like an old journal on the inside, it features recipes on scraps of paper, photos and paintings. Forty five lovely, fresh watercolours, too. Very well priced for a hard cover book, and makes an ideal present for any Archers fan; ex-pats living abroad; keen cooks, or anyone who loves the British countryside.

Amazing Illustrations 23 April 2010
By A. Carr
This is a fabulous cookery book - but what made it so delightful were the incredible illustrations done by Sarah Bell. It brought the book and the recipes to life! We found out about the book at Sampsons Farm Hotel and Restaurant, where we were staying for the weekend. We were lucky enough to meet Sarah, as she lives and assists her husband Nigel who owns Sampsons Farm. The original illustrations from the cookbook are displayed throughout the hotel, and prints are available to purchase! A real treat for an Archers fan!
