I bought this for my eldest daughter for her birthday who was turning 11. She loves it! It is surprisingly realistic with the mood lighting on. They swish about and sometimes 'hold hands'. She's acts like they are her pets. Seems good quality, we have no problems with it and now been 3 months. Had to clean out the tank as appeared to be getting a green tinge last week. The backing is just plain black so I got her some aquarium printed stuff so now looks even more impressive. She rated it her favourite present of all time, she may just be being kind...!

I absolutely love my jellyfish lamp. Ignore the instructions, just fill with water and loads of washing up liquid, then bathe the jellyfish themselves in washing up liquid pop them in upside down ie. holding them by the tentacles and leave them to dance around. At first glance they could be real. Absolutely mesmerizing, this could easily be used in a bedroom as it is virtually silent also.
Love love love it!

All is not what it seems with this novelty item. Instructions are, bizarre, to say the least. Fill with water, add some wash up liquid, empty, then fill, slowly with fresh clean water, distilled preferred.

The reason?, well air bubbles are a problem, tiny ones that cling to the sides and to the jelly fish. All in all after you get over this the effect is quite rewarding. I wish the Jellyfish were a little bit more weighted, as most of the action tends to be at the top of the tank. Still, Im glad I bought it, after a bit of fine tuning I will get it just right.

This product is great and it does work. Must purchase PURE distilled water (about 2 litres). Also, may need to leave jellyfish in water overnight for bubbles to go away. Also bubbles may reappear when turned on, however leave it for a bit and they should disappear slowly. Great product to impress people. Only complaint is instructions, which are rubbish, I had to search online for techniques on setting it up.

Worried my girlfriend would think they were tacky, but she loves them, they all have names, and we make up voices when they are trying to grab each other. It is quite difficult, to get them to work probably, if you find loads of bubbles in the water, just add a couple of drops of hand soap and ' bobs your uncle, Fannies your aunt', they disappear. Once working its really good.

Great colour changing lamp, fairy liquid definitely required to make the jellyfish move about the tank. Good quality and value for money product.

This is cute and a bit different to normal mood lamps but I'm still not sure it's worth all the messing about to set it up.

The whole thing sits just over 12" tall by 9" wide and that's including the base and the top light section.

After a couple of unsuccessful tries using distilled water with a few drops of washing up liquid added (exactly as per the instructions) I turned to google to check for a solution and found mention of using de-ionised water and immersing the jellyfish in the washing up liquid and leaving to soak for an hour or so.

After duly traipsing out to Halfords and picking up 5 litres of de-ionised for £3.99 I set about soaking the jellies.

I'm not sure if it was the change in water or the soaking that did the trick but one or other (or both) seemed to work wonders and the jellyfish happily floated about as intended. Still takes a bit of faffing about to set up but this method definitely makes a massive difference to whether or not it all performs as expected. The motor runs quietly and there's just a gentle flow to make the jellyfish move about so it's nice and relaxing to have as a night light. It runs for 4 hours before the automatic shutdown kicks in so it runs for a good time.

Now that we've had it up and running and we've had a chance to 'oooh' and 'aaahh' over it for a while I'd say it's very pretty (although the lighting could be brighter) but between purchase costs and de-ionised water I don't know if it's worth almost £30 all in.

We don't have it switched on much any more as it's a pain to keep changing the water when it gets cloudy but when we were using it it was a very pretty conversation piece.
