5.0 out of 5 stars Music made for listening to 21 Mar 2001
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
This CD is fabulous, I have not found a beter one yet. Antony has a great voice and is backed up by a range of super singers. I listen to this CD about four times a week and I'm not sick of it yet, and don't think I will be. The one track that is a must for listening to is the Confrontation near the end. "It is FANTASTIC". If you are a fan of the musicals this is one cd that should be in your collection, one that you need to complete it all. I have never seen Jekyl and Hyde, not until it comes to England, but I have the CD and like most musicals it is one that you need to hear before you can understand the enjoyment and pleasure, plus relaxation that this CD can bring.

5.0 out of 5 stars Underrated masterpiece! 13 Nov 2008
Format:Audio CD
Musically I rate this album amongst my top five favourite musicals of all time. There are many highlights and with the song `This Is The Moment` Jekyll and Hyde boasts having one of THE great musical songs.
I`m astonished another reviewer complaining that there are only ten songs they like on the cd. ONLY! For a musical that is a large number of quality original songs. Just think, ten good songs is three more than `Phantom Of The Opera` (great musical) and nine more than `Cats`!
Jekyll is still relatively unknown but I`m convinced that it`s too good to just fade away and will indeed have it`s day at somepoint in the future.
I would recommend this 2cd version in particular as it features a terriffic number entitled `Bitch, Bitch, Bitch`. Unfortunately this song has been omitted from many other versions including the region 1 DVD of the show and also the performance I saw in my local theatre just two days ago.

5.0 out of 5 stars brilliant highlights 14 Jan 2013

Although it has to be said that some of the tracks here only stand up as part of the 'story', the albums highlights more than compensate....Warlows 'This is the moment'...and introducing the awesome Linda Eder singing two CLASSIC songs 'A new life' (now one of my all-time favourites) and 'Someone like you', written by her husband Frank Wildorn make this album a 'must have' for those who appreciate a great voice, great song-writing and theatre/story/song....Worth buying the album for the 5 or 6 showstoppers contained here.....

4.0 out of 5 stars Phantomish but not quite! 14 Mar 2002
Format:Audio CD
I am writing this review based on listening to the CD's just the one time so it's worth bearing this in mind. I bought this item after hearing the song 'This is the moment' performed on television recently so I didn't have too much knowledge about the rest of the music on the 2 CD's.
The first thing that struck me was the similarity between the sound of the musical and Andrew Lloyd Webber's Phantom of the Opera. The songs can best be described as dark but I am sure this is intentional in order to convey the full horror of the Jekyll and Hyde story.

I must admit based on previously listening to the 'This is the moment' track I was expecting great things from this album that sadly I didn't get. For example a great deal of the material seems to be cliché musical theatre, not particularly original. Sometimes the lyrics are cringe worthy and a lot of the dialogue that I was expecting to hear from the original stage show has not been included.
The best tracks are all on CD 1; they are in my opinion 'This is the moment', 'Bring on the men', and 'Someone like you'. I actually enjoyed listening to Anthony Warlow's voice and he does a superb job of playing both Jekyll and Hyde. Linda Eder who plays Lucy has an interesting emotional Streisand like voice but I just couldn't stand listening to Carolee Carmello who plays Lisa (she just sounds too old for the character) but thank goodness she doesn't feature too heavily on the CD's.
The story actually has a great deal of potential and I can't understand why the composer and lyricist didn't make a bigger deal of it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing 1 Sep 2008
Format:Audio CD
Having been a fan of this musical for some time, I finally got around to buying this CD. And what a disappointment it was! Although I enjoyed it, very few songs in the collection stood out for me as enjoyable, and many were dull and confusing to listen to.

The ending is of course the great fault of this musical, too abrupt to inspire any lasting feeling, but as a whole I had enjoyed it. There are perhaps 10 songs in this collection I would listen to again with relish, the rest simply bore me.
