ABOUT THE BOOK

You, or somebody you know, has likely purchased something from Jeff Bezos company. He is one of the rare businessmen who has been able to successfully launch and grow a company of such wide use and dominance that its hard to imagine American life without its existence. This company is Amazon.com, the worlds largest online retailer.

A multinational company headquartered in Seattle, Washington, Amazon.com initially started out as an online bookstore but quickly expanded into a general e-commerce site. Under Bezos vision and leadership, it now sells everything from music CDs to groceries and childrens toys.

Its not hard to understand why the company has been so successful. Launched in 1994, right around the time when the Internet became widely used by the average American, the site offers busy individuals who dont have the time to physically shop at stores the ability to get everything they need in one place.

EXCERPT FROM THE BOOK

After college, he worked for Fitel and then for Bankers Trust. He then moved on to D.E. Shaw in New York City, a global investment and technology development firm, where he rose to senior vice president. One spring day in 1994, Bezos noticed that Internet usage was growing by 2,300 percent a year. He quickly determined that there was a market for selling books online.

With his wifes full support, Bezos quit his job and went to Seattle to follow his dream of starting a company that sells books online. His decision to follow his dream at the risk of a stable life was made according to what he calls regret minimization framework, in which he thought about the number of regrets he would have at age eighty. I knew that if I failed I wouldn't regret that, but I knew the one thing I might regret is not ever having tried. I knew that that would haunt me every day, and so, when I thought about it that way it was an incredibly easy decision, Bezos has said about his decision...

I love this sort of book, it's in the same context as the Steve Jobs biography which accompanied my lazy holiday in the sun.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Postive Biography - 267 Locations - As short as an article 6 Nov 2013

"Bezos has revolutionized not only online shopping, but the publishing industry." ~ (Locations 20-23)

Karen Lac has written a very positive book about how Jeff Bezos has changed our world. She also explains why amazon is so popular. She calls Jeff Bezos, "the American dream personified." She talks about his love affair with computers and how he is a devoted philanthropist. From other recent books you may have learned that Jeff almost died in a helicopter accident. That story is told in full here in this book. To be honest this book is a very brief biography and the information has been mostly gleaned from Time Magazine, Forbes, Wired and recorded Interviews. As far as I can tell the author did not interview Jeff for this book. However I think you will enjoy this book as it is very interesting and will give you a quick look at Jeff Bezos and amazon.com. This book also discusses the "regret minimization framework."

Very interesting. Amazon is perfect for me who dislikes shopping. But most of I love convenience of the Kindle, not only for reading but rudimentary research.

This book sums up Jeff's life in a short 25 pages. It was very informative, and was a fast, easy read. It also was pretty cheap. Would recommend.
1.0 out of 5 stars boring and not informative 6 Jan 2014

I was hoping for a bio of how amazon got started and more about its creator. This could have easily been written by a seventh grader that cut and pasted directly from the internet after Goggling Jeff Bezos
