The price of mountain bikes covers a vast range from around £75 to nearly £3000.00. The price reflects the standard of the fittings and the workmanship. In this case I was looking for a reasonable standard of build but not top of the range as the bike would only be used as a daily hack which needed to be reliable. So, after searching the internet I came across this Jeep Renegade - I was taken by its chunky appearance and general "can do" looks. OK - it has a rim brake on the rear but this is not necessarily a bad thing. Big chunky tyres 26x 2.1. The frame is light and well built. For this price, things like stainless spokes and a good group set would obviously not be provided and this is the case. I think the front chain set is steel rather than ali but the rear changer (Shimano) is precise and came fully adjusted. The general finish on the frame appears to be good but the spokes, front chain wheel, hubs and front disk calliper are all black paint finish. Nevertheless, for this price (under £200.00 although I have seen it priced at £240.00) it looks like a bargain. It provides a stable ride over roughish ground and is light and easy to handle - not for competition though! If you want a cheap mb with good appearance but don't want to spend the earth, then this one is worth consideration.
