Book Description

Le sequel to Michael Wright's joyous and very funny bestselling memoir, C'est la Folie

Product Description

If you had three wishes, what would you wish for?

Having spent two years alone in France, doing his best to survive in a foreign land, and failing miserably to woo a dishy French copine, Michael Wright has everything he ever wanted: manly powertools; a cat, chickens and sheep; earthy neighbours; an aircraft and a grand piano. Yet he is still alone and - in a moment of rare self-knowledge - decides that the only way to find the girl of his dreams is to stop looking for her. Yet barely a week after coming to this momentous decision, an email from an old school friend re-introduces him to Alice - a paid-up city girl who speaks only three words of French and comes with an expensive shoe habit and a deep-rooted mistrust of the countryside. Even worse, she lives and works on the far side of the Atlantic, in Baltimore, USA.

And so begins an unlikely romance, conducted across two continents, as Michael the rustic hermit struggles to unlearn his lessons in living alone and contemplates the alarming prospect of sharing his French life (not to mention his aeroplane) with someone else...

Even Better. 9 Aug 2010
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
Follow-up books are often disappointing, but not so with Je t'aime a la Folie. This account of a year in Michael Wright's life during which he achieves two life-long ambitions is written with consummate honesty and humour. He never allows sentiment to degenerate into sentimentality which it could easily do. It is well-paced, informative, charming and pretty-well unputdownable. There are laugh-aloud moments and tear-in-the-eye moments. In today's publishing climate it was a relief to be able to enjoy a book for a change.
The third book will be even harder to write, Michael, but I am already looking forward to it.

It is nearly four years since I read his first book,"C'est La Folie" which I thoroughly enjoyed. It has been a long wait but well worth while.

I always read Michael's column in Sunday's Telegraph and also the article about his family, in Saturday's Telegraph where I noticed that his new book was on sale. I ordered it straight away, and started to read it immediately. I was so engrossed with the book that my wife said to me, "You'll be sorry when you finish it", which of course I am. I have to say that it is one of the most enjoyable books I have read, and think it is even better than "C'est La Folie". May be that is because I found it very romantic.

Thank you for giving a grandfather so much pleasure and enjoyment. I just hope that you write another book, and if you do, that I am still around to read it.

Je t'aime a la Folie 27 Aug 2010
Format:Hardcover
I previously enjoyed Michael Wrights book "C'est La Folie". With this second book, again I find the writing a delight. Michael clearly and humourously, describes his life in rural France. His column in the Telegraph on Saturdays, gives a good feel of what these two books are about.

A lot of the pleasure comes from the quality of the writing. Too rare these days.

Another good read
I enjoyed reading both books. They were well written and fun. If I had to save one copy over the other it would be C'est La Folie winning. Read more
