Je K'A So Yor?b? (Let's Speak Yoruba) is an introductory textbook for the study of Yoruba, a principal African language centered in Nigeria. From the beginning of the course, students communicate in meaningful Yoruba and become familiar with traditional and contemporary Yoruba life. Essential for first-year students, the book is also an appropriate learning tool for linguists, anthropologists with specializations in Yorubaland, and all Africanists.

This is the best book to teach yoruba to some one who understand english. The book is clear, didactic, inteligent and progressive. I'm learning yoruba for 4 years in others books. But, this book is really good.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good with supplementation 19 Jan 2006

This is an excellent textbook, but a little weak on grammar. I suggest consulting the out-of-print _Teach Yourself Yoruba_ (E.C. Rowlands) or something similar if you want more grammatical depth. The book is actually still in print, but neither Amazon nor Yale University Press seems to want to sell it. Try the National African Language Resource Center at the University of Wisconsin-Madison...they also sell two CDs with the audio material for the book--indispensable!

1.0 out of 5 stars No sound... 15 May 2004
By Review Reviewer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I realize this isn't a part of an audio language study course, but for crying out loud...how is one supposed to pronounce a letter without even the written phonetic pronuciation in the book? You know...I would like to have seen this as an example at least....a sounds like the A in Jack....at least! Or G as in glee without the L...

Don't buy it unless you know all the low, medium and high level tones and the alphabet.

My husband is Nigerian and he said it would be impossible to learn Yoruba from just a text, especially this text without the audio.

Looks like a book one could self-teach Yoruba but without audio it is a useless book.
