Art Farmer(1928-1999) co-led The Jazztet with Benny Golson(b.1929) from 1959 -1962 and this excellent reissue combines their two final albums originally released on MERCURY.
Tracks 1-8('Here and Now') were recorded in New York City on February 28 & March 2, 1962 with Art Farmer(trumpet, flugelhorn); Benny Golson(tenor saxophone); Grachan Moncur III(trombone); Harold Mabern(piano); Herbie Lewis(bass) & Roy McCurdy(drums).
Tracks 9-14('Another Git Together') were recorded in New York City on May 28 & June 21, 1962 with the above personnel.
The music achieves a balance between organisation and improvisation with some fine solos and highlights of the 14 tracks include Golson's 'Whisper Not' & 'Along Came Betty', Thelonious Monk's 'Ruby, My Dear' & Moncur's 'Space Station'.
The Jazztet never really got the recognition they deserved and this 79-minute CD is an ideal introduction to their exhilarating music.

4.0 out of 5 stars Two Fine Albums From One Of The Era's Finest Groups 9 Sep 2013
By Dave - Published on Amazon.com

The Jazztet was more than just the typical hard-bop group - it combined thoughtful arrangements and compositions with two of the premier soloists in jazz - Art Farmer and Benny Golson. These 2 albums from near the end of their initial life are fine examples of why the group has always been held in such high regard. Straight-ahead swingers, ballads, standards, and even a couple numbers in a funky vein - more polished and disciplined, perhaps, than some of their contemporaries, but in no way esoteric or distant. Easily recommended, as are all of this albums.
